The Chinese Character Museum, a national first-class museum, is located at No. 656, East Section of Renmin Avenue, Anyang City, Henan Province. It is a national-level thematic museum approved by the State Council that integrates cultural relics protection, display and scientific research functions. It is also the first museum in China with characters as its theme.
The museum is a group of postmodern buildings with modern architectural style and the charm of the Shang Dynasty court. It consists of buildings such as the Character Square, the Square, the Main Hall, the Cangjie Hall, the Science and Technology Hall, the Research Center, and the Exchange Center. It covers a total area of 143 acres and a total construction area of 34,500 square meters. A total of 4,123 cultural relics have been collected, including 305 first-class cultural relics, involving oracle bone inscriptions, bronze inscriptions, bamboo slips and silk books, the history of the development of Chinese characters, the history of Chinese calligraphy, minority characters, world characters and other aspects. On November 29, 2007, the first phase of the Chinese Character Museum started construction and was officially opened on November 26, 2009.
