The scenery is beautiful, but the weather is unstable. It can rain. There weren't many people when I went there, and the bus was quite fast, so if you get carsick, it's quite painful! There are plenty of negative oxygen ions, so you won't suffer from hypoxia!

Having been to Jiuzhaigou, I was very satisfied with my visit to Huanglong this time. The scenic area is not large, and it takes about four or five hours to easily complete the tour by cable car and walking trail. The calcification pool is very beautiful, and there are many attractions. The scenic area is well planned, and you won't waste energy by detours. Just pay attention to the weather. We went there on August 20th, wearing long pants and thin jackets. We booked tickets on Ctrip and entered the park with our ID card, which was very convenient.
We really enjoyed visiting HuangLong National Scenic Area, which is beautiful and fascinating. The park is well maintained and the board walks make it easy to walk up. I have a knee problem and so we walked up and took the cable car down. You do not need to pre-book the ride down since most people ride up and walk down. There was no line to ride down and tickets could be purchased at the entrance to the cable car. If you have good knees I would suggest walking back down since the distance to the cable car entrance is almost the same as the distance to go back down and there are two paths so you can go up on one and down on the other. Either of these methods (walking up and taking the cableway down, or walking both ways) mean that you will spend all of you time at the scenic area enjoying the travertine pools and and forests not waiting in the significant (sometimes hours long) line to go up by cableway.

Upon entering the park, the first thing that caught my eye was the wild animal area. A caged car slowly pulled in. Outside the window, lazily lounging Siberian tigers appeared, their fur gleaming golden in the sunlight, their eyes hollow and empty. Occasionally, they stood up and paced, their steps devoid of the majesty of the kings of the forest. Instead, they seemed programmed machines, repeating their aimless movements. Fellow tourists excitedly clapped at the window, trying to attract their attention, but the beasts, accustomed to such interruptions, didn't even bother to raise an eyelid.
Turning a corner, several black bears awkwardly bowed and begged for food. Tourists fed them, laughter filling the air. I suddenly thought of Jack London's Buck, longing for the wilderness. If these bears knew, what kind of wilds would they dream of? The primeval forests deep in the Qinling Mountains, where their ancestors once roamed, or this eternally impassable fence?
The herbivore area seemed much more peaceful. Giraffes gracefully munched leaves, and zebras strolled across a simulated grassland. The fences here felt less stifling, and the animals seemed more comfortable. However, a closer look revealed that their behavior still bore the hallmarks of captivity—repetitive pacing patterns, conditioned responses to food, and social interactions distinct from those in nature.
The bird garden moved me most. The colorful parrots had their flight feathers clipped, forcing them to hop from low branches. A peacock spread its feathers, and visitors raised their phones, yet no one noticed its repeated attempts to fly over the seemingly endless mesh fence. I stood there for a long time, watching it try and fail again and again, and suddenly understood the cruelty of this design: it gives you the freedom to see the sky, but deprives you of the ability to touch it.
Wandering into the primate area, the moment I locked eyes with an elderly gorilla, I felt a familiar emotion. Sitting in a corner of a rockery, its eyes revealed a nearly human-like contemplation and melancholy. We were only a few meters apart, yet we belonged to two different worlds. Did it dream of the African rainforest? Does it miss the days of swinging through the treetops? No one can answer these questions, only the deep wrinkles at the corners of its eyes seem etched with silent stories.
In the late afternoon, the zoo's broadcast announced the upcoming animal show. I followed the sound, but paused at the entrance. Through the crack in the door, I saw a black bear riding a bicycle and a monkey doing math problems in clothes, as the audience erupted in laughter. Ultimately, I didn't go in, suddenly feeling that this kind of entertainment, which domesticates wild animals into clowns, smothered in an unspeakable sadness.
The zoo has a wide variety of rare birds and beasts, including cranes, peacocks, Bengal white tigers, Siberian tigers, black bears, brown bears, lions, giant pandas, wolves, and more. There are also many cute little animals, such as meerkats, red pandas, various monkeys, and gorillas. There are also wonderful sea lion performances and random clown performances. The venue is large enough to spend a whole day, making it a great place to take the kids.

Take the Sky Ropeway directly to the Cloud Ladder, then take the Cloud Ladder to Longtou Mountain Square, where you can begin your plank path hike. The low visibility has its advantages: even the most treacherous plank paths are less intimidating. The first half of the path is mostly downhill and flat, while the second half is more uphill, making it a bit tiring. Along the way, you'll see a variety of trees and wildflowers, making it a true botanical exploration. If you have more time, you can stay at Longtou Mountain, where accommodation and dining are provided. The entire journey takes three hours, followed by a descent.
