The weather is getting colder, everyone, remember to dress warmly! Chongqing has so many delicious foods! I love them all 🍽️
Food Check-in 😋:
✅ Lao Gan Jia Crayfish & Local Cuisine
This time I came specifically for "Sister Xia's favorite crab 🦀". The Chongqing spicy crab shell is fried until crispy, and when you break it open, it's all juicy yellow; the typhoon shelter-style fried crab has a mountain of fried garlic, and the crab legs are very meaty 🈵. The small blue crayfish 🦞 is even more substantial than many restaurants specializing in crayfish, and it's incredibly flavorful after opening, plus you don't have to bother peeling it. In Chongqing, if you're not eating hot pot 🍲, eat at Lao Gan Jia!
✅ Tian Bang Bang Hot Pot
Order both the bamboo fungus and shrimp paste! The bamboo fungus, soaked in the red broth, is crunchy, and the handmade shrimp paste 🦐 wrapped around it is tender and bouncy! The large chunks of braised beef 🐮 are perfectly braised, and after cooking them in the red broth, they melt in your mouth. Mint Beef 🥩 The tender beef is refreshingly cool with a hint of mint. Their watermelon 🍉 ice balls and watermelon mochi hot pot are incredibly visually appealing and a perfect complement to hot pot.
✅Chen Popo Hot Pot
The broth is a rich, thick beef tallow pot 🍲, and the aroma is amazing as it simmers! Don't hesitate, order the 3.8 RMB plate of freshly sliced beef 🥩. We tried the fresh beef and cumin flavor; the meat was fresh, and after a few dips in the red broth, it was tender and flavorful. My friend raved about the bean curd wontons 🥟, which were absolutely amazing. The bean curd skin wrapped around the meat filling soaked up the broth, creating a unique texture. Their old-fashioned ice jelly 🍧 is only 1.8 RMB, with a perfect brown sugar flavor and a refreshing, cooling effect to relieve the spiciness.
✅Yang Chunxia Hot Pot
I was truly surprised when I looked at the menu: white radish for 2 RMB, bean curd skin for 5 RMB, and even freshly sliced beef 🥩 for only 3.8 RMB. I have to praise their handmade shredded beef; a 20-second dip in the spicy oil and it's incredibly tender and bouncy. And the dragon beard pork—we ordered the jade flavor—was fried until fluffy and crispy, like a snack; the whole plate was gone in no time. Their fruit-stirred yogurt was also very generous, packed with fruit pieces. ✅ Frog Fish Hot Pot
The bullfrogs are freshly killed, still trembling slightly in the boiling spicy oil when served. The frog legs are plump, tender yet chewy. We also added a serving of haor fish; the fish meat is delicate, offering a different texture from the frog. The fish soaks up the numbing and spicy broth, tender yet chewy. Finally, be sure to add some noodles; cook them in the rich broth until translucent, then slurp them up with the broth.
✅ Jiucun Grilled Pig Brain
The grilled pig brain is baked in a small foil bowl, still sizzling when served. To be honest, I hesitated a bit when I first saw it, but after taking a bite, I found the texture to be incredibly tender, like soft tofu 🍞. The main appeal is the spicy flavor and seasoning. The pickled radish diced inside is the perfect finishing touch, quite refreshing and not too greasy.
