I passed by Hanmer Springs on the way to Christchurch in November 2018 and stayed there for one night. There are many motels and hotels in the town. Since I booked the room late, I booked a motel far from the bathing area (10 minutes walk). The boss was a Russian uncle, who was very generous, haha. The bathing area is relatively large and there are many people. It is not a traditional hot spring pool, but more like a small outdoor swimming pool. However, it is not bad overall. If you pass by, it is worth stopping and staying for one night to experience it!
