Huayan Temple, a must-see in Datong, truly lives up to its reputation! It deserves a perfect rating!
This temple, steeped in millennia of history, was first built during the Liao Dynasty and has endured through the passage of dynasties, retaining its grandeur. Standing inside, looking up, the ancient halls, exquisite wood carvings, and mottled stone tablets exude a sense of time-honored richness. The Buddha statues in the Main Hall are especially majestic and awe-inspiring, inviting you to slow down and take in the experience.
While there were certainly quite a few tourists that day, it didn't detract from the experience at all. I brought my daughter here specifically to take photos of her in a Tang Dynasty-style dress, set against a backdrop of red walls and gray tiles, paired with her kilt and bun, the photos turned out amazing! As she ran around the courtyard in her traditional attire, sunlight filtering through the eaves, it felt like she'd been transported back a thousand years. Even passersby praised the photos.
The overall experience was a blend of historical solemnity and the vibrant energy of everyday life. Whether you're looking to learn about Liao and Jin culture or simply take photos, this place is worth a visit. When I left, I was still holding the photos I had just taken, feeling very satisfied. I would like to visit Datong again next time I come.
