A 10-minute stroll from the hotel is Kashgar's famous Gaotai Folk Houses. Kashgar Old Town is also very close, making it a great combination for a day trip. This residential complex is said to date back to the Kashgar Khanate. Legend has it that Ban Chao and Geng Gong of the Eastern Han Dynasty once lived here. Most of the existing buildings were built over 600 years ago. Due to their clay structures, they lack safety and stability.
Beginning in 2009, a residential reinforcement and renovation project was launched, investing 839 million yuan to renovate 9,722 traditional Uyghur dwellings using carbon fiber reinforcement and steel support. In 2014, 150 million yuan was invested to improve the landscape. In 2021, an intangible cultural heritage preservation project was launched, implementing a "one-house, one-design" approach. The complex is scheduled to reopen in 2023 after renovations, with free admission. Currently, the complex is primarily home to artisan shops, with an area preserved in its original state for visitors to explore. A full tour takes about an hour and a half.
