The Strait of Magellan connects the Atlantic Ocean in the east and the Pacific Ocean in the west. It is 592 kilometers long from east to west and 3.3 to 33 kilometers wide from north to south. The strait is divided into two sections, east and west, by Cape Froeder in the middle. The western section of the strait is winding and narrow, with a width of 48 kilometers at the entrance and only 3.3 kilometers at the narrowest point. The water is deep, with the deepest point reaching 1,170 meters. The rocky shores on both sides are steep and towering. Every winter, huge glaciers hang on the rock walls, which is a spectacular sight. Whenever the ice collapses and falls into the sea, it will make a thunderous sound and threaten the navigation of ships.
