China (Hainan) Nanhai Museum, a national first-class museum, is located in Tanmen Town, Qionghai City, Hainan Province. The museum was founded in April 2018 with a total construction area of 70,593 square meters. It is a comprehensive museum aimed at displaying the humanities, history and natural ecology of the South China Sea, protecting the cultural heritage of the South China Sea, and promoting cultural exchanges between countries and regions along the Maritime Silk Road. As of 2022, China (Hainan) Nanhai Museum has 93,676 pieces (sets) of collections, 961 pieces/sets of precious cultural relics, 123 specimen collections, 1,222 pieces (sets) of collected collections, nearly 900 sets of various specimens, 3,572 pieces (pieces) of free donations, and a total annual audience of 189,077 people. The museum is divided into two areas, north and south. The south area is the main exhibition area, with 8 indoor exhibition halls and an open outdoor exhibition gallery; the north area has 2 exhibition halls, mainly used to introduce temporary exhibitions. In October 2019, the China (Hainan) Nanhai Museum was approved as a national 4A-level tourist attraction; in June 2020, it was rated as a popular science base of the Hainan Provincial Federation of Social Sciences. In December 2020, it was selected into the fourth batch of national first-class museums.
