Petrovaradin Fortress: A Historical Treasure on the Danube
Located in Novi Sad, Serbia, Petrovaradin Fortress stands majestically on the right bank of the Danube and is known as the "Gibraltar on the Danube". This magnificent military fortress was built in the 17th century and expanded during the Austro-Hungarian Empire to become one of the strongest fortresses in Europe.
Main Features:
- Spectacular Architecture: The fortress covers a vast area, has thick walls, a maze of underground passages (up to 16 kilometers long) and solid fortifications, demonstrating the exquisite craftsmanship of 18th-century military engineering.
- Iconic Clock Tower: The clock tower on the top of the fortress is the symbol of Novi Sad. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that the hour and minute hands work in opposite directions - the long hand points to the hours and the short hand points to the minutes, so that boatmen on the river can identify the time from a distance.
- Excellent viewing platform: Standing on the top of the fortress, you can overlook the panoramic view of the Danube and the old town of Novi Sad. The red roofs and the river complement each other, and the scenery is particularly charming at sunset.

Can you imagine that in 1861, this was the year when the Serbian National Theater was founded. It is also the oldest theater in the history of the southern Slavs. So it is not only a cultural precipitation, but also a witness of history. So the significance of visiting here is enhanced.
The National Theatre, built in 1868, has gone through different stages of architectural and artistic development along with the fate of its people and country, existing as a symbol of Serbian culture, traditions and spirit. In 1983, the National Theatre was declared a monument of great cultural significance and is under the protection of the Republic of Serbia. Today, under its roof, three artistic groups are present - opera, drama and ballet.
