Shantang Street is located outside the gate of the northwest corner of Suzhou Ancient City, from the east to the monk bridge and west to Huqiu Mountain. The length is about 3,700 meters, and the width is about30-100 meters. Shantang Street was built in 825, during Bai Juyi's tenure as Suzhou's thorn history. For this reason, Shantang Street is also known as "Baigong Dike". After many destructions and reconstructions after the fighting, Shantang Street was renovated in a large-scale manner. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Shantang Street formed a commercial street in the style of Ming and Qing Dynasty. Shantang Street is mainly axle of "white mention", and the whole is a "T" shape, with commercial buildings on both sides. In 2010, Shantang Street was rated as "China's famous historical and cultural street". In 2014, as the heritage site of Suzhou section of the Grand Canal, it was selected into the World Heritage List. It is currently a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
