Shapotou combines four major landscapes: desert, Yellow River, mountains, and oasis, making it a rare wonder in the world. Whether you're drifting down the Yellow River on a sheepskin raft or riding a camel across the sand dunes, you can experience a unique Northwest China atmosphere.
Stepping onto a raft bound together with 14 goatskins using ancient methods, you instantly feel the pulse of the Yellow River, a river that has flowed for two thousand years. The goatskin raft beneath you bobs gently with the waves, the wooden poles gleaming from wear—every detail reveals the craftsmanship of traditional artisans. The raftsman steers with steady composure, his impromptu rendition of the folk song "Hua'er" echoing through the valley, both rugged and melodious, perfectly complementing the Danxia landforms and reed marshes on both banks, as if transporting you back to the era of Silk Road merchants. This is not just a rafting trip, but a mobile classroom of intangible cultural heritage, etching the richness and romance of Yellow River culture into your memory.

Zhenbeibao Film City is where many excellent films of our time were filmed: Red Sorghum, The Herdsman, New Dragon Gate Inn… So go there, experience a journey through time, and feel as if you're actually there.
The scenic area didn't seem very large, but it still took 2-3 hours to explore it all. Since we went to Helan Mountain in the morning and only visited this place in the afternoon, we wanted to eat something outside the scenic area before going in. However, the food outside was more expensive than inside. Although November is the off-season, we still saw many people resembling the Fairy Zixia.

The Western Xia Imperial Tombs at the foot of Helan Mountain are breathtaking! The rammed earth mausoleums, resembling "Oriental pyramids," are magnificent, their imposing presence against the backdrop of mountains exuding a sense of history. The artifacts in the museum hold the secrets of civilization, while XR and VR experiences bring this thousand-year history to life. The miniature train ride is comfortable, and the unique cultural and creative products are exquisite. It offers both a profound experience of multi-ethnic integration and a novel technological experience, making it well worth exploring in detail.
First, visit the museum, which should take about 1.5 hours. Then, go to Tomb No. 3. Tomb No. 3 is just for viewing from the outside, so you'll only have about half an hour there. On the way to the exit, you'll pass a staircase with paintings, where you can also take some photos.

Some of the rock paintings were severely weathered, while others were still quite clear. Helan Mountain is truly beautiful, and the art museum is worth seeing. It was a bit cold in November, so we only spent about two hours there before leaving.
Unlike the picturesque mountains of the south, the Helan Mountains exude a sense of imposing grandeur, like a towering, muscular figure. Beyond the natural beauty, the three-thousand-year-old rock paintings add even greater significance to the area, transcending mere natural beauty. After the visit, it's a convenient walk to the Rock Painting Village for lunch, where the décor is also captivating.

Online ticket booking is convenient and offers a 5 yuan discount. However, for a tourist attraction, 90 yuan is still quite expensive, especially considering it only features one geological feature. I met a very kind person on my trip to Bolanggu. If you're planning to go to Bolanggu, you can call the long-distance bus station to inquire about shuttle buses. The customer service representative will give you the phone number of the person in charge. The fare from the county town to Bolanggu Scenic Area is 20 yuan. I contacted this person in charge a day in advance. The next day, the bus broke down and couldn't run. The driver didn't call me either, and I waited a long time without getting a ride. I then called this person in charge, explaining that I hadn't received a call from the driver. After understanding the situation, this person in charge decided to take me to the scenic area in their own car. They waited for me for 3 hours at the entrance and then took me back to the county town. I'm very grateful to this person in charge of the shuttle bus for making my trip to Bolanggu possible. If you're planning to go to Bolanggu, you can follow the Jingbian Travel mini-program.
Most of my trip to Shaanxi was spent in overcast and rainy weather. After checking the weather forecast, I was fortunate to find a sunny day, so I adjusted my itinerary to visit Wave Valley. The scenery at Wave Valley was beautiful, and the leisurely pace of exploring the large loop was very enjoyable. Booking tickets through Ctrip was convenient, and I will definitely use it again next time.

A great place to see authentic archaeology. The Soldier Cave is highly recommended. Unfortunately, I missed the show due to lack of time. The camel ride was affordable. The so-called special transportation options, aside from the tractor, were just average. The museum and the Soldier Cave offer free guided tours, which was highly recommended.
This attraction exceeded my expectations. I took various means of transportation (camel cart, horse carriage, electric car, sightseeing car), watched a particularly wonderful performance, and there was a small shop next to the performance where I could eat at affordable prices. It was my first time to visit the Tibetan Soldiers Cave. The children especially liked it and it was very meaningful.

The Helan Mountains are majestic and precipitous, stretching as far as the eye can see, like a protective barrier guarding the Northwest. Lush forests, rugged rocks, and deep ravines create a breathtaking landscape. From the summit, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the Yellow River Plain, a truly awe-inspiring sight. Beyond its unique natural scenery, the region also boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage, making it an important landmark on the Silk Road and well worth a visit.
A worthwhile tourist destination in Northwest China! The Helan Mountains, the father mountains of Northwest China, protect this land and water, Ningxia, like a protective barrier! The mountain range is majestic and unique!

I specifically visited this place because of the opening credits of "A Chinese Odyssey." Seeing Zixia boating among the reeds, accompanied by a melodious tune, brought back memories of thirty years ago. It takes about an hour to drive here from Yinchuan. The price is a bit expensive; the entrance fee plus transportation costs nearly 200 yuan per person. It feels overdeveloped, with too many unnecessary facilities added for commercial purposes, disrupting the original tranquility and serene natural beauty. The roaring seaplanes and speedboats, and the incredibly long return trip (from the island to the sand dunes to the pier, it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to walk). If you're short on time, this isn't a must-see attraction in Yinchuan.
The Shahu Scenic Area is suitable for taking children to play for a whole day. There are cute pet areas, swan and reed areas, and desert areas. You can also take a sightseeing bus and a boat to go there and back. The experience is very good, and there is no particular congestion during the National Day.

First, park your car at the entrance to the attraction. There's a spacious parking lot, which is very convenient. Then, take the shuttle bus up the mountain. After circling for about 30 minutes, you'll reach the summit. There's a small museum with stunning views. Then, you'll start a fascinating walk, weaving and weaving, sometimes up slopes, sometimes into caves. It's quite interesting. After an hour or two of this, you'll reach another parking spot, take the shuttle bus back to the attraction ticket office, and then pick up your car and go home. The entire journey takes at least six hours. I personally think it's worth it. The entrance fee is a bit expensive.
Kongtong Mountain, located in Pingliang, Gansu, was a fortress on the ancient Silk Road, reaching a peak elevation of 2,123 meters. It is one of the birthplaces of Taoism, where Emperor Huangdi, the Qin Emperor, and Emperor Wu of Han sought enlightenment. Kongtong martial arts are also renowned. Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism coexist on Kongtong Mountain. On October 17th, we witnessed the first snowfall of 2025 on Kongtong Mountain. The autumn mist and snowscape were breathtakingly beautiful. We took a scenic shuttle bus from Kongtong Ancient Town to Zhongtai, then walked to Xiangshan, visiting all the major scenic spots and taking photos. The hike took about five hours.
