Hiking for about three hours in Zhangye's Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon, the wildness and light and shadows of the valley floor create a sense of being in an alien world. From a high vantage point, the vast expanse of mountains and rivers is a sea of crimson.
However, the ticket price is high, and the dusty off-road vehicles used for the in-depth tours make it imperative to bring your own mask.
After seeing so many pictures online, seeing it in person was a bit of a letdown. Some of the mountains were very pale, and there was quite a climb, so once you got to the top you were essentially looking at the same view from a different angle. There wasn't much to do in the area besides enjoying the scenery, and the sun was still very strong at 4 p.m.

To go to Zhangye colorful Danxia, you have to pass through Danxiakou Cultural Tourism Town. The architectural style of the town is unique, fully integrated into the local Danxia landform elements and folk culture, and it is unique. There are many special dining in Zhangye in the town, there is a performance of "Return to Zhangye", as well as hotels and homestays. There are not many people in the off-season, eat and go shopping slowly, and take pictures.

Zhangye Drum Tower, also known as "Zhenyuan Tower" and "Jingyuan Tower", was first built in the second year of Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty (1507), destroyed by war in the fifth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1648), and rebuilt in the seventh year of Kangxi (1668). The Drum Tower is square in plan, consisting of two parts, the tower and the pavilion, with a total height of 28 meters. The tower is built with rammed earth and blue bricks, with a side length of 32 meters and a height of 10 meters. There are four arched doors, and brick plaques are embedded in the middle of the doors, with "Xu Kai" in the east, "Bin Cheng" in the west, "Ying Xun" in the south, and "Zhen Yuan" in the north. There are plaques hanging on the four sides under the eaves, with "Jiu Chong Zai Wang" in the east, "Wan Guo Cheng Bin" in the west, "Sheng Jiao Si Da" in the south, and "Hu Shan Yi Lan" in the north. A Tang Dynasty bronze bell is hung in the southeast corner of the Drum Tower. It is made with exquisite casting craftsmanship and weighs about 600 kilograms. The bell is decorated in three layers: flying apsaras on the upper layer, Suzaku and Xuanwu on the middle layer, and Azure Dragon and White Tiger on the lower layer.
Whether in ancient or modern times, the bell and drum tower named Zhenyuan Tower is located in the center of Zhangye Ancient City.
In fact, in terms of format, Zhenyuan Tower is similar to many bell and drum towers in other cities that I have seen. The three-story, four-cornered wooden tower-shaped building is built on a brick-clad high platform. There are "cross" holes on the base connecting the four streets in the southeast, northwest and northeast. There is a slope on one side of the base that leads to the main building of the bell and drum tower, but when I passed by during the day and at night, the gate was closed.
However, Zhenyuan Tower is the largest existing drum tower in the Hexi Corridor.
