When most Aussies think of Canada, they imagine snow-capped mountains, adrenaline fuelled sports and evenings spent sipping hot chocolate by the fireplace. While there’s no doubt that Banff and Lake Louise should be on your Canadian adventure, a trip to Canada would not be complete without a visit to Toronto and Montréal.

From 1 May, catch one of ten direct weekly flights on Air Canada from Sydney to Vancouver for travel between 6 June and 5 September. If you’re from Brisbane, you can choose from four direct flights a week from 3 July. With seamless connections from Vancouver to Toronto and Montreal, it’s never been easier to explore Canada.

Transit in three easy steps:

1. Ensure you have any relevant documentation/forms completed for arrival.

2. Follow the ‘Arrivals’ signs to Canada Customs and Immigration.

3. Once you clear Canada Customs, simply take the escalator to the Departures level and head to your gate.

Transiting through Vancouver Airport is an absolute breeze, especially as Air Canada will transfer your baggage to your final destination.

Whether you know it as the T Dot, Tuhronoh, or the 6IX, Toronto is more than Drake, the Toronto Raptors and the CN Tower. With over six million residents, it’s known for being one of the most multicultural cities in the world. This means you can enjoy food, arts and culture from across the globe.

Start your day by exploring the historic St. Lawrence Market or bohemian Kensington Market.

Once you’ve fuelled up, spend the afternoon shopping at Toronto Eaton Centre, North America’s largest shopping centre. If you’d rather soak up the art scene, check out Queen St West’s Street Art, the Art Gallery of Ontario or the Royal Ontario Museum.

Deciding what to do next is going to be difficult-why not treat yourself at one of the city’s best restaurants with a view at Canoe? You’ll be able to savour the best ingredients from across Canada. Or for a casual night out, head to the Distillery District to choose from a plethora of pubs and casual dining.

Before your wrap up your night, head to Nathan Phillip’s Square to check out the famous Toronto sign for a selfie.

After your urban adventure, transport yourself to French Canada’s Montréal in under just an hour. With over 10 daily flights from Toronto on Air Canada, you’re spoilt for choice on the next stop of your adventure.

Dating back to the 1600’s, Old Montréal is a historic neighbourhood offering a blend of colonial history and modern culture. First stop, head to Saint Paul Street to explore boutiques and cafes set in Greystone buildings. You won’t want to miss Notre-Dame Basilica- the building has been hailed as a masterpiece of Gothic Revival. A must see for architecture buffs!

As night falls, visit the Old Port of Montréal which stretches along the Saint Lawrence River. While the site was formerly used as a trading post in the 1700’s, the area has been revitalized as a popular visitor hub. For a truly European experience, wrap up the night at a French bistro with live jazz at Modavie.

Now that you’ve ventured beyond Vancouver, why not continue your travels and explore Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or Newfoundland?
