From May 16, 2025, Room 1 of the Pinacoteca di Brera will be transformed to host “Beauty and the Ideal,” an unmissable exhibition dedicated to Antonio Canova. Twelve plaster busts restored by Banca Ifis, including the marble Vestal and enameled miniatures from the Sommariva collection, offer a unique journey into Neoclassicism, the founding heart of the Milanese museum.

This exhibition comprises a main exhibition and three "exhibition chapters," held in three major museums across Milan, and is an interdisciplinary project created specifically for the city. The "Metaphysics/Metaphysical Themes" project, curated by Vincenzo Trione, brings together metaphysical masters and their international "successors" and "students" in the 20th and 21st centuries. The exhibition at the Museum of the 20th Century, exploring the relationship between metaphysics and Milan, is part of Vincenzo Trione's curated exhibition project, held concurrently with the main exhibition "Metaphysics/Metaphysical Themes" at the Royal Palace of Milan. This project, spearheaded by the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Milan City Government, is a collaborative production of the Royal Palace of Milan, the Museum of the 20th Century, the Brera Gallery, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Italy, and the Italian Art Museum, and published by Electa. It is part of the cultural program for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
