Rattlebox Theatre presents part of the famous Anglo-Saxon epic story Beowulf in this small but perfectly formed adaption. This show tells the tale of Beowulf struggles against the monster Grendel using beautifully made puppets, sets and props based on early Anglo-Saxon costume, art and artefacts. The 35-minute performance is accompanied with evocative live music played on an impressive array of medieval and traditional instruments, including harp, bombarde, border pipes, percussion and lyre. The performance retains the spirit of the original story, whilst making it accessible to both adults and children alike (ages 6 years and up). PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nature of the story there are a few scenes of graphic puppet violence and peril, so please do not bring children under 6. All other children must be accompanied by an adult during the performance. The performance is accompanied with the magical sounds of live music; played by Steve Tyler on an array of medieval and traditional instruments. There will be three-timed performances on the day. You will need to arrive at least 10 minutes before the performance starts. After the performance finishes, you are welcome to explore the site, which features a richly decorated reconstructed Roman dining-room and Anglo-Saxon longhall, as well as a waterline replica of a Viking ship and Iron Age roundhouse. Your ticket price includes free re-entry to the site during normal opening hours for the whole of 2024. After your visit, you can make use of the Marshes Hub Tea Stop and visit the Somerset Crafts gallery in the Avalon Marshes Centre. You can also journey onto Shapwick Heath National Nature Reserve and see replicas of its prehistoric wooden trackways. Accessibility The reconstructed buildings are accessible but feature some uneven gravel surfaces and narrow spaces that may make turning in larger electric wheelchairs difficult. A manual wheelchair is available on site for visitors to loan if there are issues. Join the fun every 1st Monday at The Hotel at Avalon – where the miles are social and the motivation is contagious! 🏃‍♂️✨ The Hotel at Avalon is excited to continue our Run Club Series Powered by lululemon every month. Get up and running with us each and every 1st Monday of the Month. Whether you're new to running, training for a marathon, or a fitness walker, this is the run club series for you. Arrive by 6:00 p.m. at lululemon Avalon and meet your run coach Betsy Magato. She will guide you on a 45-minute run ending at an Avalon favorite, South City Kitchen at The Hotel at Avalon. There you can kick back, relax, and connect with your run club friends. Each runner will enjoy a complimentary cocktail or mocktail on the South City Kitchen Patio, reserved exclusively for our MotivateMe Monday Run Club participants. *Additional Food and Beverage will be available for purchase. Welcome to Our Little World Art Club! Join us for a fun and creative morning at our garden venue at 134 Avalon Parade. We will start our club at 8.45 and begin with a little sketching and chatting to wait for everyone to arrive. It will be a very relaxed morning and we want everyone to enjoy and have fun so they can be at their most creative. It is a drop off club for children age 4-8, but please feel free if you need time to settle your child, so they will be happy to stay. Especially the younger children. We will be doing a sit down themed art activity, to take home and also as a group, we will be creating community artworks which will be around the garden to explore. Morning tea will be provided - homemade biscuits, banana bread and fruit. Please let me know if your child has any food allergies. Things to bring : Please wear old clothes that might get paint on them - we may get messy! Water bottle/ change of clothes/ any food they prefer/ wet weather gear if needed. A little about myself: My name is Liz and I am setting up Our Little World, as I strongly believe that every child needs to find something that they love in creating art. I want to create a space where kids can celebrate being themselves, build confidence and form bonds through kindness and appreciation of our own uniqueness. This is not a place for perfection, its going to be creative and messy and fun! On a personal note, I have an Art and Design degree, have worked in the creative sector for many moons and have 2 little ones of my own, 6 and 4 years old. (my art club assistants!) I am currently studying Kinesiology and will be specialising in seeing children with a dash of Art Therapy, when I am finally qualified!
