A monthly club for teenagers aged 11-16: discover wildlife, learn new skills, get outside, be active!
Activities vary throughout the year but include; learning to use tools to safely carry out practical tasks that contribute to the management of the reserve; carrying out surveys of key wildlife species, providing information that helps to inform conservation activities on the reserve.
Please bring a packed lunch as will be having a lunch break.
Young Wardens can contribute to the volunteering or skills section of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. If you would like to attend Young Wardens for this reason, please get in touch to let us know:

Level 2 Botanical Drawing (E4P 2806) | Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve

A unique opportunity to study botanical illustration within Carlton Marshes nature reserve with experienced botanical artist and illustrator, Ruth Wharrier. Aimed at people who have some drawing experience (not necessarily botanical), who want to begin on a botanical art journey, this course is the entry level for people wanting to learn botanical drawing and painting. It will allow anyone to progress towards L3 and L4.
The course comprises six modules
Introduction to Botanical Drawing:
Creating Tone and Form
Observational Drawing
Investigating Structure in Botanical Drawing:
Key Shapes Part 1
Key Shapes Part 2
Introducing Colour in Botanical Drawing
Graphite/Watercolour
Pen & Ink/Watercolour
This five day course takes place over four months:

The centre at Carlton Mashes offers an inspiring setting with enviable views out across the marshes and reed beds.
Ruth studied Botanical Illustration at The Chelsea Physic Garden, London. She exhibits widely and examples of her natural history illustrations can be seen on the tourist information boards on Pakefield Cliff, Suffolk. Ruth paints in watercolour on paper, vellum and wood. She also creates etchings and works in pen and ink. Ruth is regularly commissioned to decorate harpsichords, for international clients, with flora and fauna using historical painting techniques.

Please bring with you: A range of drawing pencils, sharpener, rubber, drawing pens e.g. Uni pin 0.05, 0.2, 0.5 An A4 sketchbook with smooth cartridge paper suitable for line and wash. tracing paper, Artist quality watercolour, hot press watercolour paper (available from the tutor if required). A camera and notepad if you wish.
Teas and coffees will be served on arrival and throughout the day.

FRS Golf Evening | Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

Front Row Support brings you our 9 hole "golf evening" in support of Martin House Children's Hospice.
Two friends are taking on the "72 in 24" challenge - playing four rounds of golf across all four corners of Yorkshire, finishing up at Oulton Hall in West Yorkshire. They will travel in style thanks to event sponsors Redline Specialist Cars - a much needed boost after a 4am tee off to get the ball rolling!
To provide them with support on the last leg of their marathon golf day, we will be running a "golf evening" - 9 holes of championship golf, with all the frills of a usual golf day - but starting at 4pm so you don't need a day off work!
Money raised via the event will be donated to Martin House Children's Hospice, an incredible cause that all involved are proud to support,
