Cultural Experiences
Mark your calendars! On Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025, CAFES will be hosting a community dialogue event in collaboration with Councillor Marty Carr and the City of Ottawa on invasive species management. This event is open to the community and will be held in-person at the Jim Durrell Recreation Centre, 1265 Walkley Road, between 10am and 1pm. This dialogue event follows Councillor Carr's staff inquiry at the February 18th, 2025 Environment and Climate Change Committee (ECCC) meeting to review the City's invasive species programming and community stewardship opportunities. Staff have now released a report (see below), and this item is coming to the September 16th ECCC meeting agenda. The community dialogue event on September 3rd is intended to gather community input in advance of the Sept 16th ECCC meeting. We plan on having opening presentations, breakout table conversations, and a large group discussion, followed by lunch. We anticipate many ideas and conversations will highlight the need for better community stewardship opportunities and expanded City programming for invasive species removal and replacement. Stay tuned for more details! We look forward to seeing you all there. Information Source: CAFES | eventbrite

Prenatal Breastfeeding- Preparing Parents For Their Breastfeeding Journey Join us IN PERSON for this workshop! This will be the same great content that we deliver online, with the added bonus of connection with other parents, learning about the centre, hands-on learning with breastfeeding positions and SNACKS! We will be meeting for this workshop in the EarlyON room on the 1st floor. If you are pregnant and hoping to breastfeed your baby, you probably have LOTS of questions! When should I breastfeed? For how long? How do I make milk? What is “skin to skin”? What do I do if it hurts? Research shows that breastmilk is the only food your baby needs for the first 6 months and breastfeeding has many benefits for both mother and child. Join an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant / Registered Nurse at our Prenatal Breastfeeding Workshop to have all of these questions answered and more. Partners are welcome and invited to attend! We look forward to meeting you! Whether you're a first-time parent or looking to refresh your knowledge, this event is perfect for you. Don't miss out on this opportunity to feel confident and prepared for your breastfeeding experience!
