Laurel Canyon Collective - Presented by Dennis O’Brien | THE VENUE

Aug 9, 2025 (UTC-5)
Aurora
Concerts
The Venue is proud to host Laurel Canyon Collective presented by Dennis O’Brien on Saturday, August 9th . DOORS = 6:30pm | SHOW = 7:30pm ~ Advance Admission ~ Premium Reserved Seating = $25 General Admission = $20 ~ Day of Show ~ Additional Door Charge = $5 ~~~~~~~~~~ ⭐ Laurel Canyon Collective ⭐ The artists of Laurel Canyon were a loosely connected musical movement and community that flourished in the hills of Los Angeles during the late 1960s and early 1970s. This informal “collective” was home to some of the most influential singer-songwriters and rock musicians of the era, whose collaborations and friendships helped define the sound of a generation. Centered in the rustic, bohemian enclave of Laurel Canyon, the collective included groundbreaking artists such as Joni Mitchell , Jackson Browne , Crosby, Stills & Nash , James Taylor , Carole King , Linda Ronstadt , and Neil Young —each of whom brought a distinctive voice and style. They were joined by the likes of The Eagles , Bonnie Raitt , J.D. Souther , Harry Nilsson , Poco , The Doors , and The Mamas and the Papas , creating a vibrant, genre-blurring scene where folk, rock, pop, and country fused into what would become the Southern California sound. Far more than just neighbors, these artists often played on each other's records, shared stages and studios, and helped shape the deeply personal, harmony-rich music that became a hallmark of the era. The Laurel Canyon scene was a rare convergence of artistic freedom, cultural revolution, and musical innovation—an enduring legacy that continues to influence songwriters and bands to this day. Laurel Canyon Collective is more than just a band—we are a modern revival of a timeless spirit. Inspired by the free-flowing creativity and camaraderie of the original Laurel Canyon movement of the late '60s and early '70s, we channel that same energy of collaboration, storytelling, and genre-blending sound. Like the legendary artists who once gathered in the hills of Los Angeles—Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and so many more—we are a collective of musicians dedicated to creating honest, harmony-rich music rooted in folk, rock, country, and soul. We're not here to copy the past—we're here to carry its torch forward. Our presentation of this vast catalog of music is born from friendship, late night jam sessions, countless rehearsals, and a shared love for authentic artistic expression. In every melody and lyric, we aim to honor the Laurel Canyon ethos: raw emotion, lush harmonies, and the power of music to bring people together. We thank you for joining our journey! ~~~~~~~~~~ ~ The Venue is brought to you by Fox Valley Music Foundation , dedicated to local music awareness, education and preservation. Find out more at themusicvenue.org ~ TICKETS: We strongly recommend that you avoid buying tickets for our shows from any third parties. We will be unable to honor tickets purchased anywhere other than our website through Eventbrite or at our Box Office. ~~~~~~~~~~ Information Source: The Venue Aurora | eventbrite

Basel documents the gradual erasure of Masafer Yatta, as soldiers destroy the homes of families — the largest single act of forced transfer ever carried out in the occupied West Bank. He crosses paths with Yuval Abraham, an Israeli journalist who joins his struggle, and for over half a decade they fight against the expulsion while growing closer. Their complex bond is haunted by the extreme inequality between them: Basel, living under a brutal military occupation, and Yuval, unrestricted and free. This film, by a Palestinian-Israeli collective of four young activists, was co-created during the darkest, most terrifying times in the region, as an act of creative resistance to Apartheid and a search for a path toward equality and justice. Aurora Film Society Since 2018, the Aurora Film Society (AFS) has been broadening our community’s collective horizons by screening great movies together. When we make our film selections, we are looking for movies that our subscribers would not normally have had a chance to see, award-winning films, or films with some historical significance. As a 501(c)(3), we do not take any political stance. However, we are excited to have the opportunity to show a film that is both Oscar-winning and not readily available for viewing as a special event for the community. We screen our regular offerings every third Wednesday of the month at The Venue. To see our current schedule & past movies, visit aurorafilmsociety.org For questions and/or to subscribe, please email aurorafilmsociety@gmail.com Palestine Activism Collective The Palestine Activism Collective (PAC) is a diverse and intergenerational body of community organizers and activists located across the western Chicago suburbs. We are committed to taking direct action to primarily stop the genocide in Gaza, end all military funding to Israel, and struggle toward total liberation and self-determination for the Palestinian people, as well as for our local communities. We are dedicated to a variety of strategies including organizing our own actions, as well as elevating and supporting the actions of other local groups.
