Additionally, one chaperone per group of ten students is required to accompany the students during the tour.
The Walters Art Museum offers different tour themes to cater to various grade levels. For example, the Ancient Cultures tour is recommended for grades 2-12 and explores artifacts from around the world that reflect the art, mythology, culture, and daily life of ancient civilizations. Another theme, Telling Stories in Art, allows students of all grade levels to decode and interpret stories and themes expressed in artworks, analyzing narrative elements such as setting, character, and plot. The Animals in Art tour, recommended for grades PreK-3, focuses on the depiction of real and imaginary animals and habitats in paintings and sculptures throughout history.
These guided tours are free of charge, but a voluntary contribution of $7 per student is appreciated to support the museum's educational programs. The Walters Art Museum also offers bus stipends for Title I schools in Maryland, which can reimburse partial or full bus expenses.
