Dal y Foment: Archifau Gwydr Lliw Abertawe, a highly anticipated event, will take place in Abertawe at the PCYDDS, Cyfnewidfa Ddylunio Alex venue. This event serves as a platform to delve into the rich history of glass art in Abertawe, with a particular focus on its educational and artistic practices. Abertawe's glass art heritage stretches back to the 1930s, and by the 1980s, the Architectural Stained Glass course had gained an international reputation. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the glass archives at the Swansea College of Art and other locations in Wales, using the renowned commissions from the Llangrallo Glassworks as the basis for discussions. The Llangrallo Glassworks, established in 1970, showcases remarkable stained glass pieces, including works designed by influential German artists who were invited to teach in Abertawe during the 1970s and 80s, as well as early works by students who went on to achieve international acclaim. Distinguished speakers at the symposium include Dr Jasmine Allen from the Stained Glass Museum in Ely, Dr Reinhard Köpf from the Department of Heritage in Mönchengladbach, and Dr Martin Crampin from the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies at the University of Wales. The event will feature a diverse range of archive pieces and panel discussions, including contributions from the artists who created works for the glassworks. "Dal y Foment: Archifau Gwydr Lliw Abertawe" is part of a trio of stained glass events. Tickets for the "Lansiad y Brentisiaeth Crefftberson Gwydr Lliw" launch event on Friday, November 24th, 2023, from 16:00 to 17:30, and the "Ymweliad â Gwydr Lliw Amlosgfa Llangrallo" visit to the Llangrallo Glassworks on Saturday, November 25th, from 10:00 to 11:30, can be reserved separately. The admission is free for all events.
