The APF Beginners Meet is a powerlifting event in Lombard, Illinois, specifically designed for new or novice powerlifters. Taking place on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Lombard Strength & Fitness, this meet provides aspiring and current powerlifters with the opportunity to compete in a sanctioned powerlifting competition. The event will cover everything participants need to know, from the logistics and rules of a sanctioned contest to the technique and strategy of competing in a powerlifting meet. The day will start with an explanation of the logistics of a powerlifting meet, including weigh-ins, flight scheduling, warm-ups, and attempt selection. The rules, commands, and technique of the squat, bench press, and deadlift will be explained in a straightforward manner. Participants will have the chance to warm up and practice using competition equipment such as a monolift. The meet will be conducted in a more informal environment, allowing lifters to take three official attempts on each lift. APF/WPC-certified referees will provide valuable feedback on following the rules and improving technique. This APF-sanctioned event requires all participants to become APF members prior to weigh-ins. Lifters must also have a one-piece lifting suit for all lifts. Weigh-ins can be done on either Friday, May 17, or Saturday, May 18, and participants must provide proof of APF membership and opening attempts. The registration fee for the meet is $95, with an additional $30 for an optional event t-shirt. Please note that the meet will be limited to the first 35 registrants. “Strength Inspires” is a bench press only charity meet that will benefit the Get on Track Illinois (GOT) is a 501(c)(3) Illinois-based nonprofit organization that motivates technology-addicted youth and adolescents to disconnect from electronic devices and embrace a healthier lifestyle through movement, nutrition, and personal development. All direct donations and proceeds from the event benefit individuals participating in GOT health and wellness programming. In addition to entering the contest, we are asking each lifter to set-up an individual fundraising account on GiveLively.org with a goal of raising a minimum of $100. Main St. Lombard, IL 60148 Time: 8 a.m. start time, will run until approximately 5 p.m. Who: Any aspiring or current powerlifter with 2 or less sanctioned meets completed Description: Covered will be everything an aspiring or beginning powerlifter needs to know to compete in a sanctioned powerlifting competition. Lombard Strength & Fitness staff includes world-champion powerlifters as well as APF/WPC sanctioned powerlifting referees to cover both the technique and strategy of competing in a powerlifting meet as well as the logistics and rules of a sanctioned contest. They will start by explaining day-of logistics of a powerlifting meet, including weigh-ins, scheduling of flights, warm-ups, attempt selection and the flow of a typical meet. The rules, commands, and technique of the squat, bench and deadlift will be explained in a straight forward fashion. From there, each participant will warm-up and go through how to work some of the competition equipment like a monolift. Then, being a sanctioned event, each lifter will take (3) official attempts on each lift, but in a more informal environment than a larger, faster-paced competition. APF/WPC-certified referees will give feedback to the lifters on both following the rules through the lifts as well as technique/form of each lift. Rules / Sanctioning: This event is a fully sanctioned powerlifting meet through the American Powerlifting Federation (APF). All participants must become APF members prior to weigh-ins, and all must have a one-piece lifting suit for all lifts. Weigh-ins: Lifters will need to weigh-in either Friday 5/2 at 10:00 a.m. or 5:00 p.m., or Saturday 5/3 at 7:00 a.m. Lifters must show proof of APF membership and provide opening attempts at Weigh-ins.
