All materials will be provided for the workshop, but students are encouraged to bring their own images to work from, such as drawings or photographs. Under the guidance of Emily, a skilled fourth-generation upholsterer, you will discover the wonderful craft of upholstery. Using a combination of modern and traditional materials and techniques, you will learn how to build a seat from the frame upwards. By the end of the day, you will have a finished piece to take home with you. During the course, you will learn the basics of modern upholstery, including the use of tools, webbing, hessian, foam, and fabric application. Most of the materials and tools will be provided, but you will need to bring a 1m x 1m piece of fabric of your own choosing for the top cover. You have the option of bringing your own dining chair or purchasing a footstool frame from the tutor. If you choose to bring your own chair, please make sure it is unsprung and a seat only.
