Fujiyoshida
The Fire Festival held at Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine and Suwa Shrine on August 26 and 27 every year is known as one of the three major festivals in Japan and is also called the Yoshida Fire Festival. The ceremony begins at 3 pm. On the 26th, the festival is held at Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine. In the evening, the "Myojin Mikoshi" and "Mikayama Mikoshi" shaped like Mount Fuji are carried by the bearers to the "Otabisho" to spend the night. At the same time, more than 70 3-meter-high torches and torches piled up in each household are lit at the same time. The whole town is instantly turned into a sea of fire, and the festive atmosphere lasts until late at night.
On the afternoon of the 27th, the two mikoshis enshrined in the Otabisho will parade in Fujiyoshida City and arrive at the Sengen Shrine at dusk. The festival reaches its climax when you follow the mikoshi around Takamagahara. The festival is called "Tombura Festival" because people hold the "Tombura Tamago Festival" (Miscanthus Festival) while they parade around the area called Takamagahara in the shrine.
