Celebration
Etchu Owara (Etchu Owara) has been performed for over 300 years in this village nestled among the mountains southwest of Toyama City. It is both song and dance, lyrical, delicate, elegantly mournful. Thousands of paper lanterns line the old-fashioned townscape of lattice doors, while men and women in happi coats and yukatas dance through the hillside village to the accompaniment of samisen, kokyus (traditional Japanese stringed instruments) and taiko drums. You will be enchanted by the calm, dreamy atmosphere. Street performances are held in each area.
