This thought-provoking event features artist Nigel Hurlstone's exhibition, 'The Wind From the Feet of the Dead', which explores the challenges of care, chronic illness, and how we navigate them. Despite the serious nature of the topics, each story is told with a comedic lens, making them both informative and entertaining. The event will be led by Nigel Hurlstone, along with Helen Rees Leahy and Steve Doherty. It will provide an opportunity to hear some of the depicted stories and discuss how 'craft' and the 'art of making' can be integrated into health and social care planning. The goal is to prompt a debate on securing outcomes when projects end and explore how the Health and Social Care sectors can utilize the skills of artists and creatives to deliver solutions for health and wellbeing. Don't miss this chance to engage in a conversation that could have a real impact on the future of healthcare. The event will conclude with Tea and Coffee, providing a further opportunity to network. Lettering design for carving with John Neilson17/05/25 10.00am - 4.00pm £60 (includes tea and coffee) Age group – Adults Location: Education Room Most of us take the lettering we see all around us for granted. But all letterforms, on computer screens, books, signs, or indeed carved on gravestones, have been designed by someone. This hands-on workshop will provide an introduction/refresher to the basic principles of designing lettering. Starting with pen calligraphy and moving to drawing with a pencil and felt-tip, we will look at the structure and proportions of Roman capital letters. The main aim will be to provide a basis for a design which can later be used for carving a short inscription in stone, something we hope to offer to in a future workshop, but it also will interest anyone with a curiosity about letter forms in general. The tutor, John Neilson, is an experienced lettering designer and inscriptional carver. During the day he will also give a talk/slideshow on lettercarving in stone, and show some of his own and others’ work. The workshop will suit anyone with a serious interest in lettering design or letter carving in stone. John Neilson has been working as a lettering designer and stone lettercarver for over thirty years. He has undertaken numerous public and private commissions, ranging from memorials to architectural lettering and public art, and has taught workshops throughout the UK and overseas. He is a visiting teacher on the stone carving course at the City & Guilds of London Art School. In 2009 he was the only lettercarver in the Welsh delegation to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC. He has been editor since 2003 of the lettering journal Forum, and is author of The Inscriptions of Ralph Beyer, published in 2021. https://jneilson.co.uk/ ----------------------------------------------------------------- Dylunio llythreniadau i’w naddugyda John Neilson17/05/25 10.00am - 4.00pm £60(yn cynnwys te a choffi) Grŵp Oedran - Oedolyn Lleoliad:Ystafell Addysg Mae’r rhan fwyaf ohonom ni’n cymryd y gwaith llythrennu rydym yn ei weld o’n cwmpas yn ganiataol. Ond mae’r holl ffurfiau ar lythrennau, ar sgriniau cyfrifiadur, llyfrau, arwyddion neu, yn wir, wedi’u naddu ar gerrig beddau, wedi cael eu dylunio gan rywun. Bydd y gweithdy ymarferol hwn yn darparu cyflwyniad/sesiwn loywi ynghylch egwyddorion sylfaenol dylunio llythreniadau. Gan ddechrau gyda phen caligraffeg a symud ymlaen at luniadu gyda phensil a phen blaen ffelt byddwn yn ystyried strwythur a chyfraneddau priflythrennau Rhufeinig. Y prif amcan fydd darparu sylfaen ar gyfer dyluniad y gellir ei ddefnyddio nes ymlaen ar gyfer naddu arysgrif byr ar garreg, sef rhywbeth rydym yn gobeithio ei gynnig mewn gweithdy yn y dyfodol, ond a fydd hefyd o ddiddordeb i unrhyw un sy’n chwilfrydig ynglŷn â ffurfiau ar lythrennau yn gyffredinol. Mae’r tiwtor, John Neilson yn ddylunydd llythreniadau a naddwr arysgrifiadol profiadol. Yn ystod y diwrnod bydd hefyd yn rhoi cyflwyniad/sioe sleidiau ynglŷn a naddu llythrennau ar garreg ynghyd â dangos peth o’i waith ei hunan a gwaith eraill. Bydd y gweithdy’n addas ar gyfer unrhyw un sy’n ymddiddori o ddifri mewn dyluniad llythreniadau a naddu llythrennau ar garreg. Mae John Neilson wedi bod yn gweithio fel dylunydd llythrennau a cherfiwr llythrennau carreg ers dros ddeng mlynedd ar hugain. Mae wedi ymgymryd â nifer o gomisiynau cyhoeddus a phreifat, yn amrywio o gofebau i lythrennau pensaernïol a chelf gyhoeddus, ac mae wedi dysgu gweithdai ledled y DU a thramor. Mae'n athro gwadd ar y cwrs cerfio carreg yn Ysgol Gelf City & Guilds Llundain. Yn 2009 ef oedd yr unig gerfiwr llythrennau yn y ddirprwyaeth o Gymru i Ŵyl Bywyd Gwerin Smithsonian yn Washington DC.
