By this we mean: A dress or evening gown A suit or tuxedo Men wore suits with wide lapels, full trousers, wide ties and lace up shoes Women wore structured suits/jackets and knee length dresses with wide shoulders, heels were 2” (no higher) We suggest an internet search for “1940s’ movie premiere” or “1940s film premiere crowd” for ideas.
