September 27th- New Soft Shoe -Nine years ago on what local singer-songwriter Brent Kirby calls a drunken dare, a group of Cleveland friends and musicians showed up at the Happy Dog to play a couple sets of tunes by the late, great Gram Parsons. Dubbed the New Soft Shoe, the group has been at it ever since, spreading the gospel of what it refers to “Gram's Cosmic American Music.” Anything that Parsons played, the New Soft Shoe covers. As a result, the group plays tunes from the International Submarine Band, the Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers. It also plays songs from Parsons solo records GP and Grievous Angel. This Spooky Season, Darwin Waterfront challenges participants to complete a daring obstacle trail run while being chased by blood-thirsty, running Zombies For children 5 to 15 years. Parents actively encouraged to run with children It’s an obstacle run with a fiendish Halloween twist – think Rampage meets The Walking Dead! Each runner starts with THREE lives (represented by flags worn about the waist) but, in addition to the running, the overcoming of obstacles and the manoeuvering through the obstacles, runners also face ZOMBIES who will give chase in attempt to steal one of their three lives. The runner’s objective is to make it to the finish line with as many lives as possible intact. Shannon also taught and supported students at Kent State University in human development & family studies for 15 years. And for five+ years, she supported people living with cancer and their families in an outpatient cancer treatment setting. These valuable human connections have become part of Shannon, and she brings the lessons learned into her current roles as a Social Worker, Certified Mindfulness Teacher and ICF Certified Life Coach. Today, Shannon supports helping professionals in a variety of settings through mindfulness teachings and practices. She serves as a mental health therapist at a non-profit for individuals experiencing grief & loss. And in her private coaching practice at Nourish C&C, LLC she partners with caregivers of all kinds who are ready to rediscover peace, balance and fulfillment. Join the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park for a mindful nature walk to Beaver Marsh led by Dr. Saira Ismail! This walk will lead participants from the Ira Trailhead to the serene Beaver Marsh, which features a boardwalk that meanders through lush vegetation and calm waters. This walk will be under one mile in length. The trail is fully accessible via the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. This walk is part of the Nature Rx program. Additional Event Details Parking/Directions: Parking is available at the Ira Trailhead, located at 3801 Riverview Road, Cuyahoga Falls 44264. We will meet at the trailhead kiosk. Join us for a yoga hike with Kim Scott Sowinski, 500 RYT, in Cuyahoga Valley National Park at Pine Hollow Trailhead. Ideal for those ages 14 and older, yoga hikes are inclusive of all fitness and yoga abilities. Power down and connect with nature while using all your senses: smelling the forest, seeing the textures and colors, feeling the breeze, listening to the birds, tasting the air while stopping to practice yoga postures (asana) and learning breath practices (pranayama) during your moderately paced hike.
