GRIEVOUS ANGELS - Live at Knox Underground | Knox Hall
Jul 24, 2025 (UTC-4)
Greater Sudbury Division
THE GRIEVOUS ANGELS ARE BACK ON THE ROAD
The Grievous Angels have covered a lot of ground over their three decades – 9
albums, two Juno nominations and countless gigs played. But their latest project
Last Call for Cinderell is turning heads for the power of the songwriting and band
performance. It has been called the soundtrack for an age of uncertainty.
The Angels sound is built around the gritty songwriting of band leader Charlie
Angus. His songs capture the tragic beauty of life in Canada’s northern blue
collar outposts.
The Edmonton Journal once said that Angus sings “flatter than a dirt road in
Saskatchewan.” But they meant it as a compliment. They added that “one day his
songs will rank up there with Ian Tyson, Stan Rogers and Gordon Lighftoot.”

Shania Twin LIVE in concert! | 900 Paris Crescent

Greater Sudbury Division
A part of Sudbury Performance Group's Her Northern Voice Music Festival.
Canada's #1 tribute to Shania Twain is coming as part of Sudbury Performance Group's Her Northern Voice music festival. Book now to ensure your spot!
"A special, memorable show!"
Donna Huber's childhood was not a typical one. Her father was in "Retail" and was transferred frequently. Because Donna traveled often as a child, this type of life became normal for her and she continues to travel to this day. Now performing as Shania Twin, the top Shania Twain tribute.
After leaving home, Donna settled in the small village of Thessalon, Ontario. She resided there for 3 years and was extremely successful with her small bakery business which she operated from her farm house situated on 160 acres of land.
She then moved to Sudbury to live and work with her sister. It was here that she was surprised and pleased to receive compliments from strangers commenting on how she looks like "Shania Twain". Even Shania Twain had commented that after seeing a poster of Donna, "I thought that was me!!! Donna is the best 'Shania Twain tribute out there."
Donna put in countless hours practicing to sing like Shania, watching her videos over and over, studying to emulate her moves and the way she presented herself.
Donna met with an agent in the music business and after listening to her sing, and not to mention her uncanny resemblance to one of country music’s most beautiful and successful women, it was obvious that Donna was about to embark on something that would change her life forever.
They worked to put a band together, practiced for a few months, and the rest is history. Donna has been on the road since March of 1996 as the most successful Shania Twain tribute Act in Canada and throughout the United States and Europe.

Northern and Rural Community Safety Symposium | 935 Ramsey Lake Rd
Aug 26, 2025 (UTC-4)
Greater Sudbury Division
Welcome to the Northern and Rural Community Safety Symposium!
Date:
August 26th, 2025
Location:
Laurentian University - 935 Ramsey Lake Rd, Sudbury, ON (Fraser Building)
Welcome to the 1st Biennial Northern and Rural Community Safety Symposium!
This one-day tricultural event brings together researchers, practitioners, community stakeholders, and those with lived experience to discuss and exchange knowledge, challenges, experiences, research findings, and perceptions on northern and rural community safety (NRCS). Northern and rural communities have unique safety concerns compared to urban areas, and the geographical and social differences make responses particularly complex. Community consultation has led to the identification of three primary themes: Sex Trafficking, Intimate Partner Violence, and Mental Health and Addiction.
This symposium is meant to respond to the intricate nature of NRCS and bring academics and community stakeholders together, which we hope will be the first step in a collective effort to respond to community safety in northern and rural communities. We anticipate the relationships, experiences, and knowledge fostered by the symposium can be leveraged to produce collaborative and community-based innovations and responses.
This is your chance to share, learn from, or engage with experiences of community safety! Please mark your calendars and stay tuned for the registration and website to be live momentarily.
-----------
Bienvenue a la symposium sur la sécurité dans les communautés nordiques et rurales
Date:
Août 26, 2025
Emplacement:
Université Laurentienne - 935 Ramsey Lake Rd, Sudbury, ON (Bâtiment Fraser)

Bats about Moths! | Foxearth Meadows Nature Reserve
Oct 1, 2025 (UTC+1)
Sudbury
Photo: Privet Hawkmoth
On the first evening in October we will look closer at both bats and moths. Come and join us as we learn more and hopefully see, some of these charming creatures.
Sarah Leedham will help us learn about the moths we can attract using a moth trap and light, and we’ll even see moths up close.
Meanwhile Bat expert Graham Hart will help us discover how to hear hunting bats and we will use bat detectors to find them.
Please book in advance as places are limited.
Foxearth Meadows
sits on the River Stour floodplain in a quiet corner of Essex on the border with Suffolk. The eleven-acre site has a variety of habitats including the river and riverbank, wetlands and woodland, an ancient field boundary, a series of ponds and marshy flower-rich grassland. Managed especially for dragonflies and damselflies, it is also home to a wealth of wildlife including otter, kingfisher, harvest mouse, common lizard, grass snake and common toad. It has been owned and managed by A Rocha UK since 2015.
How to find Foxearth Meadows:
The reserve is about a mile north of Foxearth village, between the River Stour and the lane north-west of Constable’s Farm and Constables Barn (private dwellings with postcode CO10 7HZ).
From Long Melford travelling west towards Clare (A1092), turn first left after GCB Cocoa (formerly Philips Avent), signposted ‘Pentlow Road’. Then take the next left (signposted ‘Liston’) and the reserve is about 200 metres on the left.
