Join us for the launch of Psyche, a powerful poetry collection by Dr. Casey Catherine Moore that explores the rich intersections of Greco-Roman mythology, disability, and sexuality. Through evocative verse, Dr. Moore reimagines the Cupid & Psyche myth and other ancient stories, giving voice to the complexities of neurodivergence, love, and resilience. This collection invites readers to journey through a world where vulnerability and difference become strength, and every line dances with beauty and authenticity. Celebrate the release of Psyche and immerse yourself in the transformative power of language and storytelling. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with a vital new voice in contemporary poetry! The event, hosted by Regie Cabico, will showcase readings from Psyche by Dr. Casey Catherine Moore and feature special guests Dr. Ricardo L. Ortiz, Micah the Poet, and C. Alexandria-Bernard Thomas. A book signing will follow. Casey Catherine Moore (she/her) is a bipolar, bisexual poet, writing coach, and educator. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of South Carolina, where her research focused on Latin poetry, invective, and gender studies. Casey’s current work as a poet, performer, teaching artist, and writing coach centers gender, sexuality, and dis/ability and can be found in various academic and creative publications. Casey founded the queer and neurodivergent open mic series Electric Euphoria, co-produces and co-hosts the queer poetry/comedy series Homo Stanzas, and hosts open mics at Busboys and Poets at the Brookland location in Washington, D.C. Casey draws inspiration from the madness and beauty within herself, those she works with, and all the glorious complexity in nature and all around us. Information Source: Regie Cabico | eventbrite

Let’s Call A Truce is a sexy contemporary romance about second chances at life and love, bursting with humor and a touch of angst from debut author, Amy Buchanan. Partnership with Writer's Block Bookstore. AMY BUCHANAN'S affair with romance and books started at three, when she watched Beauty and the Beast and couldn’t decide if she was more obsessed with the prince or the library (The library. Definitely the library). After decades of devouring love stories written by others, she decided to share the ones pinging around in her brain. She writes fun and spicy contemporary romances with relatable heroines, swoonworthy heroes, and loving found families. She lives in Central Florida with her three littles, two pups, and one husband. On top of writing, she uses her Masters in Higher Education Administration to run a scholarship foundation for first-generation college students. When not working, she trolls travel sites for luxury rentals outside of her travel budget and–poorly–trains for half-marathons. There are two ticket options, free general admission and ticket with book. Information Source: eventbrite

Join Writer's Block Bookstore in welcoming debut author and former bookseller Aaron John Curtis to celebrate the release of his book, Old School Indian! About the BookAbe Jacobs is Kanien’kehá:ka from Ahkwesáhsne—that’s People of the Flint, from Where the Partridge Drums—or, if you ask a white dude, a Mohawk Indian from the Saint Regis Tribe. Whichever way you cut it—and Dominick Deer Woods, our irreverent, wisecracking narrator, cuts it six ways to Sunday—at eighteen Abe left the reservation where he was raised and never looked back. Now forty-three, Abe is suffering from a rare disease—one his doctors in Miami believe will kill him. Running from his diagnosis and a failing marriage, Abe returns to the Rez, where he’s convinced to undergo a healing at the hands of his Great Uncle Budge. But this ain’t Sweet Home Ahkwesáhsne, as Dominick might say, and Budge—a wry recovered alcoholic prone to wearing band t-shirts featuring pot-bellied naked dudes—isn’t the least bit precious about his gift. Which is good, because his time off Rez has made Abe a thorough skeptic. However, to heal Abe will have to undertake a revelatory journey, confronting the parts of himself he’s hidden ever since he left home and learning to cultivate hope, even at his darkest hour. Delivered with crackling wit and wildly inventive linguistic turns, Old School Indian is a striking exploration of the power and secrets of family, the capacity for healing and catharsis, and the ripple effects of history and culture. About the Author:Aaron John Curtis is an enrolled member of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, which he’ll tell you is the white name for the American side of Akwesasne. Aaron has judged for the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize, the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance prizes, the 2019 Kirkus Prize for Nonfiction, and the 2021 National Book Award for Nonfiction. Since 2004, Aaron has been Quartermaster at Books & Books, Miami’s largest independent bookstore. He lives in Miami.
