An opportunity to visit Horatio’s Garden Wales for a private tour. Every Horatio’s Garden is created by a leading designer and rarely open to the public. This tour offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the restorative garden and learn more about its key design features and style, the benefits of horticultural therapy and the impact of gardens on wellbeing. Horatio’s Garden Wales was designed by award-winning, three-time RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal winner Sarah Price, renowned for her artistic, naturalistic planting style in such projects as the Olympic Park and a garden at Manchester’s Whitworth Gallery. Late summer perennials like sanguisorba and verbena offer bold structure and warm hues. Annuals including ammi and cosmos are putting on a spectacular display during August. Led Horatio's Garden Wales Head Gardener, Owen Griffiths, you will have time to talk and learn about the charity, discover the incredible variety of plants and the individual design elements of the garden and time to enjoy the uplifting and vibrant space around you. Hot beverages and homemade cake will be available and there will be a selection of plants and Horatio’s Garden merchandise on sale, if you wish to have a memento of your visit. You will be gifted a plant list specific to the garden and a beautiful enamel Horatio’s Garden pin badge, so you can continue to show your support long after your visit. The tour will begin at 10am and lasts 1.5 hours. We would advise you to arrive in good time to allow time for parking if you are driving and making your way to the garden. In case of rain and adverse conditions; suitable clothing should be worn. All profits from tickets purchased will go directly to the charity, to enable Horatio's Garden to continue to nurture lives after spinal injury. Despite Georgia O’Keeffe’s insistence that her paintings of flowers were just flowers, they have always been interpreted as containing explicit sexual symbolism. Georgia O’Keeffe was more than just flowers. She painted cityscapes, nature, animal skulls, and her beloved New Mexico. Throughout her life she struggled with being pigeon-holed – not only as a painter of suggestive paintings, but as a ‘female artist’ or as the ‘wife’ of the photographer and art dealer Alfred Stieglitz. This talk explores how she overcame these prejudices and went from being a Midwestern farm girl to becoming the first woman to have one-woman shows at major art museums.
