Be sure to wear clothing and shoes that you can get dirty, and dress for the weather as most activities take place outdoors! (Events are canceled in cases of extreme weather only, if it is rainy or cold, there is still plenty of work to do inside our greenhouses or sorting seeds, etc. inside the Food Lab). Both UVA students and community members alike are invited to garden with us, all ages are welcome, but we ask that children under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult.

Gaia Gathering 2025 | Camp Albemarle, 4-H Way, Charlottesville, VA, USA
May 2, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Charlottesville
The Gaia Gathering is a beloved annual event that connects women
*
from around Central Virginia and beyond. We circle for healing, wisdom sharing, creative expression, and celebration. We gather to build community, deepen relationships, and nourish our collective power as healers and change makers.
This outdoor weekend event includes camping, workshops, group ceremony, plant walks, sharing circles, swimming in the river, singing around the fire, and plenty of time to play, rest, and reconnect.
Now in its 14th year, the Gaia Gathering continues to evolve and change! We're experimenting with ways to make Gaia even more
community-driven
and
collectively-created
,
financially accessible
for participants, and
energetically sustainable
for the volunteer organizers.
*
Gaia is created by and for women, including anyone for whom
woman
is a meaningful identifier or lived experience. Boys age 5 and under are welcome, as well.
Join us in the unfolding evolution of this community gathering!
Registration Details:
Please register all participants, including children and teens, as well as anyone participating by day and staying offsite.
Lodging:
Most participants bring tents for camping, though there are some (very basic) cabins with bunk beds available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Group bathrooms and showers are available for all participants.
Meals:
As a key change from previous years, participants are responsible for providing their own meals for the weekend. In the spirit of “sharing the load”, we’re encouraging participants to consider being part of a “Meal Sharing Pod”.
A pod might be a group of 4-8 people who coordinate in advance to share responsibility for feeding the pod for the weekend. One or two people take on a meal: planning the menu, bringing the food, and heating/serving it. The rest of the pod gets to relax and enjoy being fed for that meal, knowing that each person will be serving the pod at another meal during the weekend.
Meal Pods are completely optional, and can either be self-organized by a group of friends, or you can sign up to participate in a “dietarily-similar” pod during registration. You’ll be connected with others who have indicated interest, and each pod will coordinate in advance of the weekend.
If you want to be connected with a Meal Pod, please register by Monday, April 14
to allow time for pods to coordinate meal plans in advance of the event.
Workshops:
Sharing our wisdom, skills, and inspiration is a vital part of the Gaia Gathering. Participants will have the opportunity to propose a workshop, once their registration is complete (look in your registration confirmation email for the link to the workshop proposal form!).
Workshop topics often include herbalism and plant walks, dance/yoga, art, and women's health. Other possibilities welcome!
Vendors:
Anyone attending the event is welcome to set up a table in the Gaia marketplace. We'd love to have you and your handmade wares! When you register, be sure to check the box that indicates you're interested in vending, and we'll send out an email with the details in early April!
In lieu of a vending fee, vendors will be asked to donate an item to our fundraising raffle.
Children:
Children and teens are an important part of the Gaia community, and are welcome with the supervision of a responsible adult. While no childcare is provided, there will be an area designated as a children’s playspace - all participants are invited to bring costumes, toys, musical instruments, and art supplies to share with the kids.
A teen space will also be available for teens to decorate and make it their own realm.
Please note that the camping and event area includes access to a river and the woods.

WHY:
Mired in a disaster zone, travel or rural area far from a hospital, or natural area miles from an access point … accidents, destructive weather, and terrorism happen, and all-too-often members of a group are not capable of dealing with the emergency. This leads to improper care of the patient, and endangers the entire group. Many recreational accidents are preventable, and improper care of trauma can compound even simple injuries. Very few first aid programs actually address the issues of providing emergency care in a setting where 911 is overwhelmed or not immediately reachable. In this course, classroom instruction and Q&A are interwoven with practical work and problem-solving exercises. Hands-on experience – a most powerful learning tool – during scenarios comprise ~50% of class. 8:00am – 4 or 5pm all days; you come away with actual do-it-yourself care-giving confidence.
This is one of the most in-depth, hands-on first aid courses on the planet -- empowering graduates with actual care-giving Competence and Confidence to save life and limb. Satisfaction guaranteed.
> FEE: $295 for the 3-day dtWFA.
Please note:
if registering less than 10-days to the start of the course, the course fee increases to $345

Tomorrow Talks | Storytelling with Purpose: Part One - Finding Your Story | Tom Tom Foundation
Jun 3, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Charlottesville
/// SESSION DESCRIPTION ///
Part 1: Finding Your Story (6/3)
Every organization—whether a nonprofit, small business, or community initiative—has a story that drives its mission. But before you can tell that story effectively, you need to uncover the moments, values, and voices that define it. In this reflective, hands-on session, we’ll help you connect the dots between your “why,” your impact, and your audience.
Participants will leave with:
A clearly defined core story for their organization or initiative
A worksheet to help surface personal, organizational, and community-driven stories
Inspiration from real examples of purposeful storytelling in action
Part 2: Telling Your Story (6/17)
Once you’ve identified the heart of your story, how do you share it in a way that resonates—whether you're talking to a donor, pitching a partnership, writing a grant, or posting on social media? This workshop is all about translating your authentic message into powerful storytelling across platforms. We’ll talk about what makes a story stick and how to stay true to your voice while adapting for different audiences.
Participants will leave with:
An understanding of how to tell your story in multiple mediums
A worksheet to help identify your communications channels and ways to amplify your story
Inspiration from real examples of purposeful storytelling in action
All tickets are donation based on a sliding scale ($15 - $35).

/// FORMAT ////
Each Tomorrow Talk begins with a connection exercise or meditation, and proceeds into a presentation and breakout activities. We aim to impart knowledge that is practical and relevant to people's lived experience; combining academic or theoretical insights, alongside pragmatic tools, and experiential and somatic learnings.

A clearly defined core story for their organization or initiative
A worksheet to help surface personal, organizational, and community-driven stories
Inspiration from real examples of purposeful storytelling in action
