Colwyn Trevarthen was a distinguished scholar, researcher and life-long innovator with a passionate interest in human musicality. Colwyn’s pioneering work in infancy research and childhood development has had a profound and lasting global impact, influencing multiple disciplines. This international, interdisciplinary memorial conference will bring together Colwyn's friends, family and colleagues in a celebration of his life and work, including a book launch of: Delafied-Butt, J. & Reddy, V. (Eds). (2025). Intersubjective Minds: Rhythm, Sympathy, and Human Being. Oxford University Press. 'Trevarthen laid the foundations for a more compassionate and understanding approach to early childhood development, one that recognizes the rights, potential and dignity of every child. He will be remembered fondly by all those who had the privilege of sharing time with him, in conversations, at symposia, perhaps sharing a meal or a walk with a group of students and family members, or even a paddle in the sea. Alongside his prolific output of print and e-publications are his recorded lectures and slide presentations posted online that will bring his work to new audiences, far into the future.' (Jaqueline Robarts, British Journal of Music Therapy, 2024) Colwyn was a member of the scientific committee for the Music in Human and Social Development (MHSD) Research Group from 2005 to 2024 and contributed greatly to our meetings and events.
