About the exhibitions:Eclipsed Presence Traditional crafts are vanishing in today's industrialised world. Acclaimed artist, Cyrus Tang recently spent time on residency in Morocco, learning from local Indigenous makers. This new installation explores how their crafts are being kept alive. Selling Sunset Selling Sunset is an exhibition by multidisciplinary artist, Natalie Thomas. It is made in response to the work and legacy of feminist artist and educator, Erica McGilchrist OAM (1926-2014). Creating 'renovations' of McGilchrist's work, Natalie examines the trend of unearthing, restoring and elevating under-represented artists. At The First Flood of Daylight At The First Flood of Daylight sees ceramic artist, Ara Dolatian (born in Iran, based in Melbourne) examine the ancient Epic of Gilgamesh. The exhibition responds to the queer and feminist interpretations of the Epic and asserts sexual difference and gender multiplicity as a pathway to finding deeper human connections. Dec 28, 2024 (UTC-8)ENDED
Homestead
Are you ready to embark on a journey of creativity??? Join us for an exhilarating acrylic pour workshop that will not only spark connection but also ignite your artistic passions. It is designed to help you create memories that will last a lifetime. In the workshop, you will dive into the world of acrylic pour techniques, where every tilt and swirl on your canvas tells a unique story. In just 1.5 hour, you and your buddy will transform into proud creators of two stunning pieces of art, each crafted with your own personal touch. Our expert instructor Nalini, will guide you through two distinct acrylic pour techniques, ensuring that your creations are as unique as YOU! Whether you're a seasoned artist or a complete beginner, this workshop is crafted for everyone to enjoy and make some new friends. Techniques included: Flip Cup Technique : This is a popular acrylic pouring technique where paint is poured onto a canvas or surface, then a cup is placed over the paint. The artist quickly flips the cup and canvas together so that the cup is upside down on the canvas. This creates a controlled pour of paint onto the canvas. The cup is then lifted, allowing the paint to flow and spread in interesting patterns. Artists often manipulate the paint by tilting the canvas to create desired effects. Dutch Pour : In these technique, paint is poured onto a canvas or surface, and then manipulated using a straw, hairdryer or similar tool to spread the paint across the canvas. The artist typically starts by pouring a base coat of paint onto the canvas, then adds additional colors on top. As the artist blows air over the surface of the paint, the paint spreads and creates intricate patterns. The technique allows for a great deal of control over the final appearance of the painting, as the artist can manipulate the direction and intensity of the airflow to achieve desired effects. The supplies are on us! Your workshop experience includes everything you need: 2 canvases (6 in. x 8 in. or 8 in. x 8 in. or 8 in. x 10 in. based on availability)a vibrant array of acrylic paintspouring cupscleaning suppliesSo, come join us every month (third Saturday) for a meditative experience while sipping some coffee/tea.
