The DMV Photography Workshops introduces " T he Digital Darkroom Club ! " The goal in these monthly meetings is share and learn more about Photoshop even if you use either Lightroom or CaptureOne in your workflow. So on the first Tuesday of the month we will be introducing folks to Photoshop and doing creative dives based on the participants needs as well. These Zoom conference where we will be starting at the basics and then going deeper and deeper into CpatureOne, Photoshop, etc to help get more out of that image you captured.(A dual monitor setup would be ideal.) And if you do not have Adobe Photoshop, but was always thinking you need to get into it, check out their Photography Plans here ! In this digital world of photography, there is so much you can do with that RAW file, it's packed with information. So we will explore some classic approaches to the darkroom to help you bring out what you want in the image. Some of the topics we will be covering will include: Understanding the pixels, digital color Adjustment layers/Masking Curves and Levels Facial retouching Frequency separation/Skin Retouching Dodging and burning Composites, background replacement AI Tools Participants can come in and discuss what they are having trouble with, or simply come to learn new techniques, or share what they are doing and learned. With any good software there are many ways to get to the same result. But be very aware what you are doing to the pixels, what looks good on your phone or on social media may not translate well in a print, especially a 30 x 40. If you shoot people, places, or things come join us because taking the shot is just a step in the process! Then follow along as we create and discover so many wonderful things in Photoshop. All ages are welcomed and encouraged. A meeting invitation will be emailed to you after you sign up by the instructor. You must have a computer and again a dual monitor setup is ideal but not needed. Please note: We only give refunds if the Zoom Meetup is "cancelled." Zoom invitations are shared to ticket holders the night before the Zoom Meetup! Searching for a partner can be horrifically painful. But board games are always awesome. So what if you combined board games and finding a partner? Picture this: You sit down for a night of games. A gaming concierge walks you through several games over the course of the night. You play classics you love and discover brand new games you've never heard of, playing each with a different group of fun singles. All while in a great establishment with plenty of delicious options on tap. At the end of the night, you give your gaming concierge a list of the folks you met that you'd like to date and a list of those you met that you'd like to just hang out with as friends. If any two people put down the same name as each other in either column, then your gaming concierge will make sure you get each other's e-mail address and you can coordinate a time to hang out. Best case scenario: You find true love, discover some awesome board games, and make some new friends. Bad case scenario: You accomplish only one of those three things, which is still pretty great. Worst case scenario: There will be alcohol. Before you decide to buy tickets, a few basics we should cover: 1) This event is for men & women, ages 25-39., and we're hoping to add events to serve even more people in the future! Head over to https://www.quirkevents.com/maryland to see what else we have to offer. (If you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, you'll be able to join our mailing list and get notified about future events. Plus, joining our mailing list gets you 50% off your first ticket purchase!) 2) To stay up-to-date on everything we have going on at Quirk Events, follow us on Instagram here! 3) Refunds are only available to those who cancel with more than 48 hours' notice, in order to make sure we have enough time to find a replacement for you and keep the event well-populated. (Exceptions will be made for emergency situations on a case-by-case basis). After that, we're blowing the money from your ticket sale on something awesome and nonrefundable. 4) If we get to 24 hours before the event and still haven't sold five tickets for each gender, we will cancel the event (and notify you). When we have run this event in the past, tickets have consistently sold very well, so we don't expect this to happen. But we thought we should cover this in case it came up. 5) How many games we have and which ones we use will be based in part on how many people attend, so we can't tell you for sure what we'll have right now. But the goal is for all of them to be fun, light, easy-to-learn games. Selection will include games from both the something-you-have-played-before category and the something-you-haven't-played-before category. The games are also chosen because they often tend to spark conversation and leave room for chatting with new people as you play. All games will be group games, meaning you'll get a chance to meet a handful of people with each new round. Information Source: Quirk Events | eventbrite

The Ivy invites you to a book launch for a one-of-a-kind debut novel: Time's Breath by Deborah Brown English! The novel includes the author's own paintings and illustrations in oil and graphite, and this form itself participates in the story, which opens with the discovery of a book within the remains of a small Norwegian boat. She will be joined in conversation with accomplished author Martha Anne Toll. Over the course of Time's Breath, the story emerges in both words and pictures to create a storytelling style at the intersection of the timeless and the contemporary. We look forward to hearing the author's perspective on her unique creation, and hope you will join us to hear more. TIME'S BREATH will be available for purchase at the event. Deborah Brown English grew up on Maryland’s Upper Eastern Shore, and originally intended to be a fiction writer, studying English and creative writing at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She graduated from MICA with honors in 1985, and her work has been exhibited in Maryland at Steven Scott Gallery, Paper Rock Scissors, the Annual Gala Show of the Choral Arts Society of Baltimore, the Academy Museum, and at the former Sales and Rental Gallery at the Baltimore Museum of Art; as well as in galleries in Pennsylvania and Nebraska. She and her husband, Philip, live in Baltimore and are known together for their joint collecting and support of the arts. Martha Anne Toll is a novelist and literary and cultural critic. Her debut novel, Three Muses, was shortlisted for the Gotham Book Prize, with New York's Vulture noting, by the time you finish this, you’ll realize you’re in the hands of a maestro.” Her new novel, Duet for One, another love story set in the high-pressure performing arts world, takes place in the classical music scene around Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square. Toll is a recipient of Fellowships from the Vashon Artist Residency, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in Virginia and France, Monson Arts, and Dairy Hollow. She is a member of the National Book Critics Circle and serves on the Board of Directors of the PEN/Faulkner Foundation. A graduate of Yale, Toll holds a B.A. Degree in Music, and her classical music training informs her artistic practice. She holds a J.D. Degree from Boston University School of Law, and comes to writing professionally after a career dedicated to social justice. Toll grew up in Philadelphia, and lives in Washington, D.C.
