If you’ve attended one of our analogue film processing workshops and want to print your negatives or if you’ve just always wanted to learn the process, this course is the perfect introduction to darkroom printing. In our brand-new darkroom space, we’ll familiarise you with the darkroom equipment, enlargers, safe lighting & processing equipment. You’ll be instructed in chemical preparation safety and taken step by step through the printing process before going solo and printing your own images. All under the guidance of Mike Stone. All materials and chemistry supplied. Bring your own 35mm negatives or we can supply from our archive. Owing to the size of the darkroom, places are limited to a maximum of 6 per session, so book early. Empowering Youth Through Music MusicCan is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing musical instruments and education to underserved youth in our community and beyond. Since its founding during the final lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic by musicians Glenn Marais and Manny De Grandis, MusicCan has worked tirelessly to restore the joy of music to young people whose access to the arts is limited. What began as a simple mission—to collect instruments and fund lessons for local youth—has grown into a movement with a wide and meaningful impact across York Region, with plans to expand nationwide. Our Impact (So Far): Over 100 instruments donated, including guitars, keyboards, ukuleles, and band instruments. 10 students currently receiving ongoing music lessons. 30 brand new Djembe Drums purchased for a drumming program at Maple Leaf Public School. Free music instruction and a paid facilitator provided to support school music programs. 20 new Yamaha acoustic guitars purchased and lessons funded for three months. A fun and experimental session introducing you to the creation of Photograms and darkroom practice Photograms are a cameraless darkroom process where objects placed on photographic paper allowing you to create abstract photographic compositions through light and shadow. Popularised in the 1920’s by Dada artist photographer Man Ray and the Constructivist El Lissitzky as a challenge to traditional photography this graphic process brings chance and mystery into printmaking.
