Mar 15–Jun 8, 2025 (UTC-5)ENDED

One of the most prominent features of art from the late eighteenth century onwards, particularly after World War II, is artists’ tendency to evolve traditional artmaking methods outside the studio’s boundaries. This exhibition examines the ways in which contemporary artists enacted new ideas formed by the social and historical contexts of their time and pushed the boundaries of artmaking and materials as a result. By Way Of offers a suite of works from the museum’s permanent collection inspired by the D.Daskalopoulos Collection Gift. Major artists from the Arte Povera movement of the 1960s and 1970s, like Jannis Kounellis and Mario Merz share the galleries with artists working today, such as Rashid Johnson, Mona Hatoum, and Senga Nengudi.

Sadie Sink stars in this bitingly funny new play from Kimberly Belflower that flips the script on the American classic.
At a high school in a one-stoplight town in Georgia, an English class is studying The Crucible. The students, however, are more preoccupied with navigating young love, sex ed, and a few school scandals than what’s in their syllabus. But as they delve into this literary classic, the class begins to question the play’s perspective, especially whether John Proctor is the hero they’ve been taught he is.
Directed by Tony Award® winner Danya Taymor, John Proctor is the Villain is a new comedy from a major new American voice, capturing a generation in mid-transformation, running on pop music, optimism, and fury - and discovering that their future is not bound by the past.

Nicholas Houfek
Ensemble:

Since July of 2024, writer/director K Hank Jost has been teaming up with composers Andrew Links and Daniel Hass to bring two great artforms into conversation with each other—music and the written word. Taking the work of promising writers at all stages of their career, upstarts and established best-sellers alike, Jost, Links, and Hass together delve into the deep structures of the text and draw to the surface the inner music present in all great literary work. Rising Canon is not simply a reading of great stories soundtracked by a live band, but the product of a generative exchange between two modes of expression. Each performance is a unique, multivocal drama—a spoken-word opera emergent from the resonance of juxtaposed text, composed and improvised music, and group collaboration.

Dialogues
All PEN World Voices Festival tickets are non-refundable. Please confirm the time and location of your event before finalizing your purchase.
From the moment pen is set to paper, all literature is inherently in dialogue: with predecessors, peers, canons, and its readers alike. Some literature goes a step further, though, centering the act of conversation as a core facet of the work.
Join poets
Dunya Mikhail
(
Tablets: Secrets of the Clay
) and
Radu Vancu
, for an exciting discussion on the power of dialogue in poetry. Moderated by poet and translator
Nancy Naomi Carlson
(transl.
When We Only Have the Earth
) these poets will explore how their poems engage in dialogue with other artists, writers, poets, and forms. From meditative discourses with ancient Sumerian tablets to ekphrastic poems, these works expose the poignance of exchange and dialogue in poetry. As literary translators, these poets will also reveal how translation informs their approach to writing poetry.
