The MIT Architecture Fall 2023 Lecture Series presents an exciting event featuring renowned architect Lina Ghotmeh. This lecture is part of a collaboration between the Aga Khan Program, the Artc, Culture, and Technology program, and MIT. The event will be held on November 7, 2023, at the Long Lounge in the MIT School of Architecture and Planning, located at 77 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02139. The lecture will start at 6 PM ET and will also be live-streamed online.
In addition to Lina Ghotmeh, the lecture will include presentations by Sama Alshaibi, Sadik Alfraji, and Huma Gupta. Sadik Alfraji, an Iraki-Dutch multimedia artist, works with various mediums, including drawing, painting, print, sculpture, and video. His thought-provoking artworks explore concepts of existence and examine themes such as anxiety, loss, fragmentation, and exile. Alfraji's work has been showcased in prestigious art venues, including MoMa PS1, British Museum, Venice Biennale, and more.
Sama Alshaibi, an artist based in the United States, utilizes photography, video, and installation to explore the aftermath of societal and environmental destruction. Her work challenges the stereotypical representation of Arab women and has been exhibited in renowned institutions, including the Venice Biennale and Museum of Modern Art.
