Interested in learning more about decorated sugar cookies?! Oh, Sugar is here to help! In this 2-hour class, we'll cover the basics to sugar cookies (so – yes, it’s beginner friendly!), do some piping practice with Royal Icing, talk about how to strategize the best ways to decorate sugar cookies, and cover the general concepts around dough and icing! Everything you'll need is provided at class along with a live in-person instructor – just bring a smile (and maybe an apron). We’ll be decorating a Oh Honey! I'm Comb! theme this time – lots of cute bees and bears. You'll leave class with a great understanding of the basics of sugar cookies plus a few cool techniques we'll cover in class! More details on refunds, things to bring, credits, and FAQs are below - looking forward to having you with us. This class is for the beginner cookier or for the person who is just curious about what cookie decorating is all about! If you have limited experience with sugar cookies, found yourself frustrated with royal icing, or if you're trying to have fun with family or friends, this is the class for you! We will be doing a fun Oh Honey! I'm Comb! set that tastes amazing and will look even better once you’ve completed your decorating! We provide everything you will need from cookies, icing, sprinkles, and a box to take your awesome creations home in - we just need YOU! Each to-be-baker gets 6 cookies, 4 icing colors, sprinkles, and all the tools necessary to knock this cookie class out of the park! Everything is prepped right before class – so no baking or icing mixing required. Just decorate! This class is on Friday, May 9th and starts at 7:00pm sharp and goes until 9:00pm, so we can have enough time to decorate and answer along the way. Come by yourself, bring your best friend, or bring the family - we have seating for up to 12 people! It's a blast whether you're coming with a friend, family member, or solo! This class is good for ages 12 and up, but if you'd like to leave the kiddos at home, purchase an add-on kit (more on that below)! The kits are great for kids at home, plus - we'll send you the class PowerPoint so you can teach them yourself! The class will be held at Castle & Crown located at 2012 W Burbank Blvd, Burbank, CA 91506. Nervous about the parking situation? Don’t be! Parking is pretty easy - there is ample free street parking. Wondering what you need to bring to have a successful time decorating? Well – nothing’s required – but here’s the things we recommend if you’d like to elevate your experience! Bring an apron! Things can get messy when you’re workin’ with royal icing – so grab an apron (bonus points if it’s cute – I’ll definitely be asking where you got it). Bring your glasses! There’s a reference slide deck to help you decorate, but if things get blurry far away, seeing glasses may be a great bet. Bring your phone! I love it when students take pictures throughout class – so bring a phone! Bring a good attitude! Cookies are fun, but they're also challenging! A good attitude makes all the difference. Who doesn’t love getting out and doing something fun while also eating delicious cookies!? That’s what Oh, Sugar is all about! Whether you want a fun night out or just want to explore what cookie decorating is on your own - we have a seat for you. A little about me – I’ve been baking sugar cookies since December of 2020 – and I haven't put down a scribe since (don’t know what a scribe is? I’ll teach you in class!). My favorite cookie themes to decorate are Halloween or Christmas – but I can do pretty much anything if icing’s involved. I love what I do –who wouldn’t love making cookies?! It’s the sweetest job in the world! Cancelation / Refund / Sick Policy Showing Symptoms Before 7 Days Out: If you’re sick prior to the 7-day refund cutoff, you can cancel for a full refund! DIY / Add-On Kits Order your sugar cookie class kit and take the class home with you to teach a child or friend or just to enjoy some more decorating on your own! These class kits come with everything you'll use in class, and I’ll email you the class PowerPoint so you can follow our step-by-step instructions from home! Cookie Class DIY Kits are created before your class, and you'll pick them up and take them with you after class. How long can a kit last? Depending on how you store your icing, your kits can last for a week or longer. Freezing cookies keeps them fresh for a long time, but I do recommend using your kit as soon as possible - ideally in the first week after you've taken it home. Cookies are heat sealed for freshness – but again, use it in under a week to make sure it tastes the best. Allergens : Heads up – these cookies include the following ingredients: SPECIALTY FLOUR BLEND (RICE FLOUR, TAPIOCA STARCH), POTATO STARCH, WHOLE GRAIN BROWN RICE FLOUR, VITAMIN AND MINERAL BLEND [CALCIUM CARBONATE, NIACINAMIDE (VITAMIN B3), REDUCED IRON, THIAMIN HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B1), RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2)], Butter (milk, salt), Sugar, Eggs, Vanilla Extract, Almond Extract, Salt, Meringue Powder (Sugar, egg whites, gum arabic, ammonius alum, sodium alginate, food starch, salt, calcium lactate, and artificial vanilla flavor.), Powdered Sugar (Cane Sugar, Cornstarch.), Water, Light Corn Syrup. Contains: Eggs, Milk Please note – these cookies are prepared in a kitchen that also bakes with common, known allergens: Nuts Please consider your allergies before registering. Class Cancelation Policy : Classes may be canceled at the discretion of me, the event host. This rarely happens – but in that extremely rare event that it does, you’ll receive a 100% refund including your Eventbrite fees. Classes with attendance below 6 people will be canceled. Don’t be sad! You can either get a class credit for a future class (along with my apologies), or a full refund! I’ll let you know if your class has low attendance 7 days before the event is canceled so that you can bring a friend ( hint hint ) or find other plans for that day. Eventbrite Fees : Your ticket price includes your ticket fees; however, Eventbrite does not refund its fees. If you cancel your ticket and request a refund prior to the cancelation window expiring, I’ll happily give you a refund less the Eventbrite fee – since I don’t get this fee back either. Eventbrite keeps it regardless of whether you show up or cancel. I know – I hate it too! Contact Me! Questions? I have answers (or I’ll make up some really fun stories at least)! Reach out to me or check out some of my work on the following social media profiles (and hey – give me a like or follow – I’d love your support!). Come and be part of the audience for this exciting panel of experts who will explore storytelling and identity in today’s fashion industry. Have you ever wondered how art can connect with new fashion consumers? What does it take for fashion be as collectable as art? In this inspiring discussion, Alison Kubler, Lydia Pearson and Joash Teo will explore the intersection of fashion and art in today’s world, where craftsmanship is honoured and prestigious galleries throw open their doors as places of fashion worship. Faced with more informed and engaged consumers than ever before, fashion companies embed storytelling and identity into their work. We know that designers today are pushing boundaries and reviving craftsmanship – how do consumers and designers fit in the arts sector and wider cultural landscape? Join us at State Library of Queensland for a conversation examining global and local movements such as sustainability and the digital landscape, and their influence on the way we create, consume, and connect with fashion as an art form. This conversation is presented in partnership withFashion Queensland. About the Speakers: Alison Kubler (Chair) is the Editor of art and culture magazine VAULT , an art curator and an authority on the intersection of art and fashion. She also co-authored Art and Fashion in the Twentieth Century published by Thames and Hudson UK (2013). Lydia Pearson is synonymous with Brisbane and Australian artisanal fashion design. Lydia is passionate about decorative technique, artisanal making, and independent design and is currently educating the next generation of fashion designers as a lecturer at QUT. Joash Teo is a leading Brisbane designer and couturier famed for red carpet glamour and impeccably constructed, signature silhouettes.
