Presented by Fictionville Studio, Song of the North is an enchanting evening of large-scale shadow puppetry that transports audiences to ancient worlds filled with vibrant colors, rich history, and stunning imagery. Held at the Cowell Theater at Pier 2, located at 2 Marina Boulevard, San Francisco, CA 94123, this multi-disciplinary performance is a testament to the enduring power of storytelling.
Created and directed by the talented 2014 Guggenheim Fellow, Hamid Rahmanian, Song of the North brings to life the inspirational epic from ancient Persia through a captivating combination of shadow puppetry, projected animation, music, movement, and theater. With over 480 meticulously crafted puppets, this performance tells the story of Manijeh, a courageous heroine who embarks on a journey to rescue her beloved and prevent a war.
Mark your calendars for the Song of the North shows on Friday, October 20, 2023, and Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. There are also matinee shows on Saturday and Sunday, October 21, 2023, and October 22, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The original score, composed and orchestrated by Loga Ramin Torkian, features the mesmerizing vocals of Azam Ali. The ensemble cast includes talented actors such as Ray Dondero, Sam Jay Gold, Harrison Greene, J Hann, Esme Roszel, Sarah Walsh, Clay Westman, and Christopher Williams.
To enhance your experience, reserve your spot for the pre-show meet-and-greet at 6:00 p.m. in the Cowell Theater lobby before the Friday, October 20, 2023 performance.
