Sports & Fitness
Join the Fall Strong Girls United Pickleball Tourney Fundraiser, a second round-robin tournament aimed at raising funds for the Strong Girls United organization. This recreational fundraiser promises to be a fun-filled event for all levels of players. The tournament will be conducted using the Q Board system, ensuring that everyone gets an equal number of games and the opportunity to play with multiple partners.
The event will be held at York High School in York, ME on October 15, 2023. There will be two waves of competition, with Wave 1 taking place from 8:00 am to 11:00 am for participants aged 55 and above, and Wave 2 happening from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm for those under 55 years old. Although Wave 2 is exclusively for participants under 55, those aged 55 and above are welcome to join Wave 2 as well.
Open to adults of all genders and skill levels, the tournament will feature a total of three rounds, with each round consisting of three games played on a rotation basis with different partners. The top four scorers in each wave will advance to the finals, where a male and female winner will be crowned. Prizes, generously donated by Emily, will be awarded to the winners.
To participate, simply register as an individual, and you will be assigned a number and placed on a court with three other players. Games will be played to 9, with a win by 2 rule. Points will be tallied after each game and round using the Q Board system.
Don't worry if you're unsure about the rules; Lani will be there to guide you throughout the tournament. Additionally, Emma Silversides will provide free babysitting and entertainment for any children accompanying participants.
By joining this event, you will not only have the opportunity to play pickleball but also support the Strong Girls United nonprofit organization. Founded by York native Lani Silversides (Boardman), Strong Girls United aims to empower girls through sports, mentorship, and mental health programming. The funds raised from this tournament will specifically support their FAM mentorship program, which connects K-8th grade girls with female athlete mentors.
Tickets for this event are priced at $65, with additional optional donations welcomed during the games. You also have the option to purchase a Strong Girls United shirt to take home as a memento of the event.
Come and be part of this meaningful tournament that combines sport, community, and empowerment.
