ASES Women's Solar Photovoltaic Workshop | Fairview High School
Jul 28, 2025 (UTC-6)
Boulder
In this
week-long
workshop, you will learn how to size a PV system, learn ways to reduce energy consumption, and have a more efficient home or business. The class will cover the proper location for a PV array for maximum energy production, and how to configure stand-alone (off-grid) and grid-tie (utility-connected) systems. Learn about quality installations. There will be hands-on labs before the actual installation. Participants will install an off-grid lighting system. Learn safety throughout. No prior knowledge is needed, and you'll receive an ASES Women's PV Workshop certificate!
Marlene Brown, the ASES Women's PV Workshop instructor, has worked with PV systems for over 30 years and has installed hundreds of systems in the U.S. and the developing world. She has taught PV classes for many years, with her own home being one of the projects. She now teaches at Central New Mexico Community College and runs their PV Program.
Why women only? This is a chance for women to work together and empower each other in a non-competitive atmosphere, on the design of a PV system, the use of power tools, and the installation of a fully functional solar electric system. The five-day workshop is Monday through Friday, roughly 8am to 5pm each day. The cost is $950.00 per person and limited to 20 women.

Amanda Giguere -- "Shakespeare & Violence Prevention" | Boulder Book Store
Jul 29, 2025 (UTC-6)
Boulder
Amanda Giguere will speak about and sign her new book,
Shakespeare & Violence Prevention: A Practical Handbook for Educators
, on Tuesday, July 29th at 6:30pm, at Boulder Bookstore.
About the Book:
Shakespeare and Violence Prevention
is a handbook that guides educators through an exploration of Shakespeare’s potential to address the public health issue of youth violence. Amanda Giguere presents Shakespeare’s plays as a tool to understand, address root causes of, and prevent violence in our own communities. Performance-based engagement with the plays in an educational setting allows students to explore violence-prevention strategies, practice empathy, and build safer communities.
Youth violence is an all too relevant topic, and this text helps educators, theatre companies, and academic theatre departments understand new ways in which the performing arts can positively impact young people.
Shakespeare and Violence Prevention
is a new spin on these classic texts that empowers teachers and community leaders to use these tools to create research-guided university engagement programs, theatre company outreach programs, and K–12 student engagement with Shakespeare, even for those without expertise in violence prevention or Shakespeare.

About
The Alchemy of Flowers
:
Exhausted by fruitless attempts to make a family, Eloise takes the chance of a lifetime to answer an ad in a French gardening magazine. To fly away from her life in the States and tend to both her shattered heart and the flowers of Paradise.
But why are the workers forbidden from going out during dusk? Who is the "Goddess of the Garden"? Is her mind playing tricks on her, or does she see a woodsprite flitting through the trees? The giggles and glimpses of a little girl haunt her and make her question: What is real in Paradise and what is illusion?
The Alchemy of Flowers
is an enchanting, modern-day take on
The Secret Garden
, sprinkled with magic.
About
In the Beautiful Dark
:
At Sunny Pines Retirement Community, where the "Sixty-Two and Better " share their golden years, secrets abound. For Birdie Allen, a retired business owner and grandmother, her secret is the only thing she's got left. Getting old isn't the hardest part about life. It's the memories from more than fifty years ago of the death of her unrequited love. And Birdie's abandoned quest to root out the killer.
When Birdie ties together a string of recent murders, and a woman disappears, she's drawn into the same chase she gave up decades earlier. But this time she has the help of an eccentric community of eager new friends. And they're not alone. Restless souls are watching, including Birdie's lost love, and they sense the danger that lies ahead. Will Birdie's pursuit of a killer finally free her of regrets and allow her to embrace the beauty of the life she's created?

Casey Johnston -- "A Physical Education" | Boulder Book Store
Aug 27, 2025 (UTC-6)
Boulder
Casey Johnston will speak about and sign her new book,
A Physical Education: How I Escaped Diet Culture and Gained the Power of Lifting
, on Wednesday, August 27th at 6:30pm, at Boulder Bookstore.
About the Book:
A Physical Education
traces Casey Johnston's journey from calorie restriction and obsessive cardio—making herself small in almost every way—to the (unexpected) healing she found through the practice of lifting weights. As she progresses with weight training, she finds simple things like carrying groceries and closing heavy doors become easier. But the changes aren't just physical. She begins to question how she has treated her body, and what it means about how she sees herself.
Combining wit, rage, and a reporter's eye for detail Johnston embarks on a mission to figure out why so many of us spend our lives trying to "get healthy" in ways that actively make our bodies weaker. On her way, she offers up a scathing take-down of diet culture, dives deep into the science of building muscle, and describes how she learned the process of rupture, rest, and repair— not just within her cells and muscles, but also within her spirit. A love letter to female strength, this is a book for anyone who's ever longed to return home to their own body.

Hyaluron Pen Certification
Do you want to be the first in your business, salon or spa to offer this amazing service to your clients? Get ready to train on this course and take your career to the next level!
What Is A Hyaluron Pen?
Simply put, The Pen is the future. It allows anyone with the proper training to provide their clients with a Hyaluronic Acid Treatment. This can be done on lips, deep lines and provides a revitalization treatment for the face. HA forms a super hydrating net over the skin and delivers water to parched skin over time. Hyaluronic Acid is known to have an amazing water-binding capacity, making it ideal for skin hydration and that means the skin is continuously hydrated, plump and healthy.
HA TREATMENTS ARE NOW A REALITY THANKS TO ADVANCES IN TECHNOLOGY. USING HYALURONIC ACID BASED PRODUCTS, OUR CUTTING EDGE TECHNIQUE CAN TRANSFORM YOUR SERVICES YOU OFFER TO YOUR CLIENTS.
What is involved in the procedure?
The procedure is quite simple and the HA used is safe as the human body produces the exact same acid, it is pretty impossible that anyone would get any sort of allergic reaction or complication from the HA itself. The more Hyaluronic Acid there is inside the Epidermis layer of the skin, the more water is retained keeping its moisture and making the appearance of the skin more youthful.
Hyaluron Pen … applies HA.
How much can you charge for the procedure?
Based on your state, area of location and techniques you do. Minimum price to charge as a New Technician is $300 and as you become skilled in your craft you can charge up to $500 for 1 ml of Hyaluronic Acid. This is great for 30 minutes of work! This is a great return on investment. You can get back what you have invested in your training quickly!

Samuel Marquis -- "Captain Kidd" | Boulder Book Store
Jun 11, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Boulder
Samuel Marquis will speak about and sign his new book,
Captain Kidd: A True Story of Treasure and Betrayal
, on Wednesday, June 11th at 6:30pm, at Boulder Bookstore.
About the Book:
Captain William Kidd stands as one of the most notorious “pirate” outlaws ever, but his legend is tainted by a bed of lies. Having captivated imaginations for more than three hundred years and inspired many stories about pirates, troubling questions remain. Was he really a criminal, or is the truth more inconvenient: that he was a buccaneer’s worst nightmare, a revered pirate hunter turned fall guy for scheming politicians?
In
Captain Kidd
, his ninth-great-grandson, bestselling author Samuel Marquis, reveals the real story. Kidd was an English American privateer and leading New York husband and father. The King of England himself dubbed Kidd “trusty and well-beloved,” and some historians describe him as a “worthy, honest-hearted, steadfast, much -enduring sailor” who was the “victim of a deliberate travesty of justice.” With honors far more esteemed than the menacing Blackbeard, or any other sea rover at the turn of the seventeenth century, how can Kidd be considered both gentleman and pirate, both hero and villain?
Marquis’s biography recreates Kidd’s perilous world of explosive naval warfare and the daring integrity he exemplified as a pirate hunter, as well as the political scandal that entangled Kidd in British–American history, rocking the New World and the Old, and threatening England’s valuable trade with India.
Captain Kidd
is both thrilling and tragic. Behind the legend is a real man woven into the tapestry of early America, rendering him a unique colonial hero and scapegoat whose life story was fascinating, exciting, bizarre, and heartrending.

Sound Bath with Sound Rise Alchemy | The Vali Soul Sanctuary
May 2, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Boulder
Join us for a relaxing and rejuvenating journey within, as we create an alchemical blend of instruments, songs, shamanic and energetic healing techniques. Each sound ceremony is different and highly improvisational based on the energy in the room. Enjoy a truly unique, heart-opening experience with crystal and metal singing bowls, didgeridoos, gongs, handpans, native flutes, drums, sacred songs and more. Beyond your typical sound bath, this is a musical journey into sound to support your self healing and deepen your meditation. Each participant will often recieve direct energy work, either with instruments, song, plant brushings, or gentle hands-on healing techniques. Prasad and Alyssa have been doing this work together for over a decade and are delighted to hold and co-create this safe and nourishing container. We are dedicated to bringing healing, love, compassion and well-being into the world. Our deepest prayer is to help people awaken, to remember their power and intrinsic ability to heal themselves.
(A portion of the proceeds from this each event are donated, in reciprocity, to a nonprofit in support of healing Mother Earth &/or humanitarian efforts.)
Please bring your own yoga mat, blankets, pillows, eye mask, water; whatever you need to be comfortable.
***Space is limited, and we encourage you to buy your tickets in advance.
***
Please arrive 10-15 minutes early, so we may start promptly at 6:30.
What’s A Sound Bath?
Also commonly referred to as sound healing or a sound journey, it is similar to a guided meditation, where you can relax and receive as the sounds/music washes over you. Music is played on a variety of instruments along with intention and prayer. It is a wonderful support for stress relief, depression, fatigue, anxiety/overwhelm, feelings of separation and loneliness, and better sleep. The resonating sounds of the instruments promote theta brain waves, which facilitate meditation and deep relaxation. Listeners often experience a sense of connectedness and peace as the sounds offer access to parts of the mind that are usually untapped, resulting in a sense of expanded awareness and higher consciousness. Sound healing can help to rebalance and bring harmony to the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies.
About Alyssa Clemenzi:
Alyssa is an Earth-Centered Healing practitioner, ceremonialist and folk herbalist. She has been studying various forms of the healing arts for over 17 years, including traditional Yucatec Maya healing, herbalism and plant medicine, crystal and sound healing, Reiki, shamanic energy work and journeying, and Nature-based ceremony and ritual. She walks this sacred path, as an intuitive guide
and
a life-long student, with deep reverence, honor and curiosity. She is passionate about being of service to this beautiful Planet and in assisting others in remembering and aligning with their truest Self. She brings her gifts to this world through song, dance, prayer, plants and medicine making, creating beauty and care-taking the Earth and waters.
About Prasad Katz:
Prasad is a talented multi-instrumentalist, drum circle facilitator (Boulder Drum Circle) & teacher. His musical journey began in 2013 when inspired by a profound experience with the healing songs (icaro) of a South American shaman. Prasad felt a deep knowing that he must “find his song”. Since then he has acquired a vast & diverse collection of sound healing tools. These instruments have been his greatest spiritual teachers & he aspires to "get out of the way", allowing their medicine to flow through him when playing. Nature is one of his greatest musical inspirations & he developed his sound in large part while playing to the trees, rivers & land around him.
His passion for music, and his kind, nurturing spirit shine through in his soundscapes & songs. Prasad approaches his sound journeys like a guided meditation; providing attendees an opportunity to relax, unwind & go deep within. His focus is to create a safe & supportive container, both physically & musically, which encourages listeners in a self-healing process. He loves to teach & assist others in their musical development. He is available for lessons, collaborations, public as well as private & corporate events. Prasad’s nature inspired sound journeys allow listeners to unwind, assists in their deep inner work & leaves them inspired & refreshed.

About this event
Class Description
These are introductory classes designed for the beginner or newer practitioner. Participants will start their path of learning the Japanese Traditional Practice of Ikenobo Ikebana. Ikenobo is the oldest school of Ikebana in Japan starting in 587 AD and is the largest Ikebana School with 4.5 million members worldwide. The Ikenobo School has had a chapter in Colorado for over 50 years and encourages everyone from all walks of life to practice Ikebana. Jump in and start your learning anytime.
In these classes participants will learn the style called Shoka. There are over 10 different styles in Ikenobo all with different philosophies - Shoka is one of them. Participants will learn all about Japanese culture, traditional practices, and how to create spectacular Shoka arrangements. Refer to the pictures below. Please join us in celebrating this most auspicious practice.

A lecture about the day’s arrangement will be presented. The teacher will then perform a demonstration. Following the demonstration, students will create an arrangement following the demonstration example and the instructor will critique the final work.
Additional Class Dates coming up:

Equipment Needed
Ikebana students are required to have the following tools:
· Good quality scissors – a Japanese Ikenobo Hasami (scissors) is suggested.
· Branch pruner and craft scissors.
· Good quality Brass long needle flower Kenzan (pin frog) is essential. Round is preferred, at least 4 inches or more in diameter. The bigger the better. Please Do not bring a small diameter short needle kenzan or plastic kenzan – those will not work for these lessons.
· Towel
· Water bucket to take flowers home in.
· Table cover or plastic sheet.
· Paper Bag for plant clippings.
· Enough Medium angular gravel (1/4 inch) to fill your container to the top.
· Funnel-shaped ceramic container (see below).
· Water pitcher
If would like to purchase tools the suggested links are below (It is not recommended that you buy an inexpensive non-brass short needle kenzan that is often seen on internet sites for cheap prices. They typically break easily. Also do not purchase or bring a plastic kenzan - they do not work for this type of arrangement).

Ikenobo Ikebana Container
For class, each student will need a funnel-shaped japanese style flower container pictured below (english style flower vases are not advised - It is very difficult to make the correct style japanese arrangement in a non-japanese style vase). One can be purchased online or sometimes found at local Goodwill stores. The funnel shaped japanese containers are typically round and about 8 to 12 inches wide at the top, about 8 to 11 inches tall and must have a flat top edge and very small several inch base.
See example pictures below.
If you do not have or cannot find a funnel-shaped container, one may be borrowed from the instructor. There are a limited number available and you must reserve one at least five days prior to the class session – please contact the instructor. All borrowed containers must be returned at the end of the class session. No exceptions. Please do not bring any kind of food container or cylindrical container or english/western container – those will not work for the lesson. You must have enough gravel to fill your container to the top.
If you are unsure about your container selection please email a picture to the instructor for comment and useability.
Email instructor : ikenoboikebana@hotmail.com
Flower Material
All floral materials for the specific class that day will be provided by the instructor. Once the lesson is completed, you will be able to bring your materials home with you.
Ikenobo School of Ikebana
The history of Ikenobo is the history of ikebana. Ikebana began with Ikenobo and although over 550 years many other schools have branched off from Ikenobo, Ikenobo is said to be the origin of ikebana. Ikenobo’ s history encompasses both the traditional and the modern, the two continually interacting to encourage new development in today’s ikebana.
People in every era have loved flowers, but our predecessors in ikebana felt that flowers were not only beautiful but that they could reflect the passing of time and the feelings in their own hearts. When we sense plant’s unspoken words and silent movements we intensify our impressions through form, a form which becomes ikebana.
We arrange plants cut and removed from nature so that they are filled with new beauty when placed in a new environment. Rather than simply re-create the shape a plant had in nature, we create with branches, leaves, and flowers a new form which holds our impression of a plant’s beauty as well as the mark of our own spirit. Ikebana should also suggest the forces of nature with which plants live in harmony - branches bent by winter winds ... a leaf half-eaten by insects.
Ikenobo considers not only an open flower but also a flower’s bud beautiful, for within the bud is the energy of life’s opening toward the future. Past, present, future ... in each moment plants, and humans, respond to an ever-changing environment. Together with plants, humans are vital parts of nature and our arranging ikebana expresses this awareness.

Boulder Art Week: Mad Agriculture Photo Exhibit | Mad Agriculture
Apr 11, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Boulder
Join Mad Agriculture on April 11 for an evening of art, storytelling and community. This evening is centered around a photography exhibit, with light snack and drinks provided.
Farmers are at the heart of the regenerative movement—stewarding healthier soils, restoring biodiversity, and strengthening our food system. Through striking images and personal narratives, this exhibit captures their resilience and the impact of USDA conservation programs in helping them adopt regenerative practices. These programs don’t just benefit farmers; they ensure the long-term sustainability of our food, water, and landscapes.
But today, this critical support is at risk. As political uncertainty looms over USDA funding, farmers are being forced to navigate an unpredictable future, shouldering financial and environmental risks alone. The stories in this exhibit showcase what’s possible when farmers have the resources to care for their land and communities—but they also highlight what’s at stake if that support disappears.
Join us in celebrating these farmers and their work, and connect with the Mad Agriculture community as we reflect on the future of our food system. Advocate for continued conservation funding, support local farms, and invest in a food future that sustains us all.
