FIRST ENCOUNTERS - KING LEAR | Silhouette Studios - Weston Favell Shopping Centre
A king announces that he will divide his kingdom between his three daughters according to how much they love him. Lear thinks he will live out his old age with all of the comforts of kingship, and none of the responsibility. But the eldest two daughters, Goneril & Regan, have other ideas in mind - and he has given away all power to stop them. His vanity has devastating consequences for family, nation and climate. Our First Encounters with Shakespeare production, makes Shakespeare’s play about family, power and betrayal relevant for a new generation of theatregoers.This 80-minute version of King Lear uses an edited version of the original play to create the perfect introduction for young people aged 7-13 and their families. The tour of First Encounters: King Lear is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, which makes it possible for the RSC to expand its tour to work in partnership with more places across England.

This workshop is for everyone- beginners and improvers as we all need to start somewhere and we can all improve! Were going to take inspriation from artists such as Morandi and Van Gogh who both did amazing pen and ink drawing. We'll look at some artists work using pen and ink first then do some exercises and then I'll set up a still life and you can bring some photos and magazine photos and well spend part of the time on one and part on the other so you're going to learn SOOOOO much! Of coruse lots of coffee tea and cake to sustain your fabulous work! Do bring your own black drawing pens and sepia ones if you have them but I will provide pens as well.!

Oil pastels are fabulous mark making objects. We'll have a variety of makes for you to try out and we'll show you various ways of using them to create atmosphere drama boldness and quiet... yes you can do it all! We will look at other artists work as well so you can take some inspiration from them. We'll have a go at doing some still life and bring some photos to inspire a landscape as well. Hot drinks and cake included (of course!) I can't wait to show you what you can do with these wonderful materials (and yes theyre are very mucky so bring wet wipes, an apron and be ready to be a bit grubby!) If you have your own and want to learn to use them please bring them along too!

Foraging Media Screening of 16mm films by Karel Doing | Harry Clarke Lecture Room, National College of Art and Design
A screening of 16mm films by artist filmmaker Karel Doing followed by a conversation between Karel and artist Chloe Brenan. Karel Doing is an independent artist, filmmaker, and researcher whose practice investigates the relationship between culture and nature by means of analogue and organic process, experiment, and co-creation. His work has been shown worldwide at festivals, in cinemas, on stage, and in galleries. He was a founder member of Studio één, a pioneering DiY film laboratory. He has invented “phytography,” a technique that combines plants and photochemical emulsion. In his new book Ruins and Resilience: the Longevity of Experimental Film (Goldsmiths Press, 2024) he explores the “ruins” of cinema and the innovative ways by which the experimental artists, since the end of the 20th century, are trying to keep it alive. Chloe Brenanis a visual artist working across the languages of motion film, photography and printed matter and ephemera. Her work is attentive to the poetic haptics of daily life and involves close attention to subjects and processes on the edge of perception that call into question boundaries between bodies, environments and wider structures of power. She teaches in the Department of Sculpture and Expanded Practice at NCAD. Films by Karel Doing The Mulch Spider's Dream 16mm, 14 minutes, colour, 2018 This film attempts to kindle the vision of a spider by using experimental phytochemistry; creating organic shapes, rhythms and colours directly on expired 16mm film. Phytography 16mm, 8 minutes, colour, 2020 Phytography dives into the rich and varied world of plant chemistry. This collection of organic 'objets trouvés' demonstrates how nature generates multiple creative solutions, each one structured intricately. Poetry Workshop: Play | Terrace NQ
Poetry Workshop Writing is fun right (write!)? We do it because it bring us, among other things, joy to make and create, to play with language. In this workshop we'll be diving into the fun of poeming, getting silly with language, maybe playing a game, maybe trying some team writing, and having a go at a couple exercises to mix things up and get us thinking and writing outside of the box. There'll be a few things to try, so if you don't fancy the sound of one thing there'll always be an option to do something else. I'll provide some poems and other resources, and guide us through some exercises and games, but if you've got anything else you think helps make writing fun please bring it along to share! This will be a relaxed workshop, but the aim is for you to create at least three pieces of draft writing you can take away with you to continue working on. It doesn't matter if you've been writing since you could first hold a pen, or never written at all, this is a safe and inclusive space to come hang out and enjoy being creative together. Queer community friendly x As a working class human I've come up against pay barriers all my life; this workshop has three payment tiers cos I don't want money to be a barrier to anyone. About Irene Tu:Irene Tu is a Los Angeles-based stand-up comedian, actor and writer who honed her chops in San Francisco. Her first comedy album WE’RE DONE NOW debuted at #1 on the iTunes comedy charts. About Snowmass Comedy WKND!After last summer's riotous success, Snowmass Comedy WKND! is back! The Collective Snowmass is thrilled to announce the second edition of this laughter-filled weekend, returning July 11-13 at multiple venues across Snowmass Village. Since 2021, Snowmass Live has been presenting national and regional comedians at The Collective Hall, establishing it as a comedy hub for both established and up-and-coming local comedians. Admission Information: Reservations are encouraged. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and priority given to those with reservations. Large groups should arrive early to ensure the best seating. Show Content Shows feature adult content and are not suitable for those ages 18 and younger. Bumblebee Education day and Bee safari | Mothecombe Gardens
The latest findings from BeeWalk, the national bumblebee monitoring scheme run by the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, have revealed that 2024 was the worst year for bumblebees since records began. Across Great Britain, bumblebee numbers declined by almost a quarter (22.5%) compared to the 2010-2023 average.
In an illustrated presentation Gill Perkins, CEO of Bumblebee Conservation Trust, will give insights on the ecology of bumblebees and their relationships with flowering plants and dive into what happened last year to understand what caused the declines.
The day will also include how to identify our most common bumblebees followed by a walk after lunch around Mothecombe’s Bee Garden and wildflower meadow, to ‘meet the bees’ and put into practise our identification skills.
