Only certified testers can perform the annual backflow assembly test required by the Oregon Plumbing Code and Water Purveyors. Workshop Description: 2-Day lecture/field experience This hands-on course will provide an overview of freshwater mussel sampling in the Willamette Valley, including guidelines for using the resulting data for assessment of habitat condition and responses to restoration. Limitations – uneven surfaces, not comfortable in stream, you can still participate and observe, etc Lunch is provided. Instructor: Zee Searles Mazzacano, Ph.D. (they/them) is the Owner and Principal Scientist at CASM Environmental LLC, and a NAUI-certified scuba Instructor. Their work focuses on terrestrial and aquatic insects, freshwater mussels, and other invertebrates. Zee has a B.S. in Genetics & Cell Biology and a Ph.D. in Entomology from the University of Minnesota. Their research and teaching has taken them from river bottoms to tree canopies and from universities to fish & wildlife agencies, non-profits, and independent consulting as they investigate and preserve invertebrate species, characterize their habitats, and develop management plans that protect the overall ecosystem. Zee has worked on freshwater mussels in the Pacific Northwest for almost 20 years, including snorkel, scuba, and eDNA surveys; population assessments; habitat management recommendations; and outreach and education. HOOPS 2024 Basketball League is a Christian, homeschool basketball league that offers practices and games in the Molalla and Oregon City areas. With a commitment of over 25 years, HOOPS has provided a nurturing Christian environment for homeschoolers to engage in basketball. The upcoming 2024 season is just around the corner, and registration will be opening soon! It's important to note that the season schedule typically runs from early January to mid-March and is based on gym availability. Practices are typically held on Monday or Tuesday nights, while games take place on Friday nights at the Clackamas Community College. As part of the registration process, a kickoff meeting will be held at the Reformation Covenant Church in Oregon City to distribute rosters and volunteer assignments. It is mandatory for at least one parent to attend this meeting. Detailed information will be sent to registered participants. Please be aware that registration will close on Monday, November 6th. In the event that there is limited space available, priority will be given to those who registered earlier. The cost of registration is $80.00 per child, with a maximum of $320 per family. Payments are made online during the registration process. Any cancellations after December 8th will result in the loss of funds paid to HOOPS. However, if a player is turned away due to limited space, a full refund will be issued. Participants must be between the ages of 7 and 18 as of January 1, 2024, and should primarily be homeschooled with less than 50% of their school time in organized programs outside the home. The HOOPS board reserves the right to make adjustments to these eligibility criteria on a case-by-case basis. The league organizes teams based on gym availability, locations, player skill level, and player numbers in specific areas. Preservation of Trees During Construction: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach | Clackamas Community College Environmental Learning Center (ELC)

Friday, April 11th 8:30 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. Location: Environmental Learning Center at Clackamas Community College, Oregon City Campus Professional Credit: Clackamas Community College, 0.7 CEU (7.0 PDH); OLCB, 7.0 CEH; Award of Completion will be provided. Workshop Description: This workshop will cover the basic principles of tree preservation for numerous professions involved in property development and construction projects (e.g. tree care workers, engineers, architects, planners, real estate developers, and sitework construction trades). A multi-disciplinary approach is emphasized, because careful coordination throughout all phases of construction helps to ensure the successful preservation of existing trees. Consulting arborist Ryan Gilpin and municipal urban forester Jennifer Killian will share the process laid out in the newest edition of "Managing Trees During Site Development and Construction Best Management Practices". They will review real-world project examples, and participants will practice being consulting arborists and municipal plan reviews. Instructors: Ryan Gilpin is the principal consultant at Nidus Consulting in Portland. He specializes in tree and construction projects, completing hundreds of projects and training several consulting arborists along the way. He is chair of the Tree Care for Birds Committee. He is co-author of two Best Management Practices: "WCISA’s Tree Care for Birds" and "ISA’s Managing Trees During Construction BMPs". Jennifer Killian (she/her) is Assistant Professor of Practice in Urban Forestry at Oregon State University. In her home state of Wisconsin, Jennifer’s interest in municipal forestry was sparked while working for the state Department of Agriculture’s Emerald Ash Borer team, which discovered the beetle for the first time in 2008. She is an ISA Certified Arborist, Qualified Tree Risk Assessor and certified in Wildfire Risk Reduction. Outside of work, Jennifer enjoys being a semi-professional cake baker, triathlete, heart attack survivor, and her favorite role, new mom. Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this workshop students should be able to: Communicate the importance of trees and the benefits of preserving trees during construction. Identify and implement regional tree protection codes. Outline strategies for protecting trees in each phase of development. Follow best management practices to collect necessary tree data during the planning phase for the development of a tree preservation plan. Articulate why a collaborative approach is required to protect existing trees from damage during construction. Major Topics: Explore new research about the ecosystem benefits of trees as a keystone factor for retention during construction projects.
