Join Print and Matter and True Form Projects for the Music & Art Speaks Artist Talks series, a captivating exploration of music, design, visual arts, and heritage. In collaboration with True Form Projects, Print and Matter draws inspiration from their extensive collection of record sleeve artwork to delve into the realms of art, design, and printmaking with the talented Sofia Niazi. To enhance the creative workshops, a series of music and design-related talks will precede each workshop. This public programme, presented by True Form Projects, is completely free for all attendees.
The Artist Talk Programme features a lineup of exceptional artists. On November 18th, from 11am to 12pm, graphic designer Abeera Kamran will share her expertise. Kamran, based in both Birmingham, UK, and Karachi, Pakistan, is renowned for her work in graphic design, web development, and typography. She collaborates with musicians on projects encompassing print and digital design, including album covers and music album websites. Her research focuses on the challenges of publishing Urdu in the digital realm.
On December 2nd, from 11am to 12pm, music producer Amritpal Singh Kullar, also known as A.S. Kuller, takes the stage. Specializing in Hip-Hop, Bhangra, and Panjabi Folk, Kullar's debut EP, Grove Lane Tales, garnered recognition on BBC Radio. He recently collaborated with New York rapper Benny The Butcher, producing a track titled "Chemical Reaction" that pays homage to his Panjabi roots.
On December 16th, from 11am to 12pm, visual artist Faisal Hussain will present his extensive body of work. Hussain's artistic portfolio includes public art, film, sculpture, audio, and text art. His artwork is proudly displayed in permanent collections at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery and Urban Nation in Berlin. Additionally, Hussain is currently archiving one of the largest South Asian record collections in the UK.
To conclude the series, on January 6th, 2024, from 11am to 12pm, DJ, producer, vocalist, and visual artist Zoya Ahmed, also known as DJ Rizmi, will grace the stage. Ahmed's artistic pursuits explore the mystical dimensions of sound, music, and collective movement. Through her work, she aims to dissolve perceived boundaries between people and time, emphasizing interconnection, love, and balance.
