Specification best practices: Integral Concrete Waterproofing System Things have changed, since the integral concrete waterproofing admixture was first used in 1984 at the Boeing facility in Everett Washington. No longer are we just adding an admixture to the back of the truck hoping everything will be fine. The integral waterproofing admixture market has developed and matured to include many types of chemicals, from hydrophilic to hydrophobic and everything in between. And, the admixtures are now commonly used in a systems approach as a stand-alone solution eliminating externally applied membranes. The presentation will start with a review of American Concrete Institute’s (ACI) chapter dedicated to permeability reducing admixtures. The intention of this document is to help specifiers determine what level of performance is required from the admixture based on site conditions; and which third party test data may be helpful to validate manufacturers performance claims. We will conclude the presentation with a review of the assemblies commonly used with an integral system and the supporting details for penetrations, cold joints, control joints and repair of defective concrete. Speaker John Andersen: With over 29 years’ experience supporting projects in the concrete and construction industries, John Andersen has spent the past seventeen years of his career with Kryton International, applying his knowledge and experience to concrete sustainability and durability on projects throughout Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest USA. John brings extensive technical knowledge, as well as a diverse history of hands on experience with a range of projects from residential towers through to civil infrastructure mega projects like British Columbia Hydro’s site C Hydroelectric dam. Connie Kaldor is a Juno Award-winning folk artist known for her sharp wit, heartfelt songs, and vivid storytelling. Blending prairie roots with a contemporary voice, she crafts music that’s both timeless and refreshingly current. With warmth, humor, and emotional depth, Connie’s performances leave audiences laughing, reflecting, and humming along—folk music at its most alive and honest. Tom Phillips and the D.T.’s are a Calgary-based roots band led by legendary singer-songwriter Tom Phillips, a honky-tonk troubadour and musical shape-shifter whose raw, poetic storytelling—honed over decades of reinvention, collaboration, and heartfelt performance—captures the beauty and wreckage of real life with unflinching honesty and grace.
