What to expect:This Young Rangers session is an opportunity for young volunteers (age 13-17) to join in with practical conservation tasks on the canals project. Activities will include scrub removal to expose valuable marginal canal habitat. Meeting point: Fromebridge Mill Pub carpark. Fromebridge Lane, Whitminster, GL2 7PB. Meeting point: SO 77021 07364. Come and explore your rebellious side... Join us at Rebel Trail Wales for a guided Trail Run to explore the best trails South Wales has to offer! RTW#2 - The Garth A hilly and quite demanding route that starts and finishes in Tongwynlais at the Lewis Arms Pub. We'll leave Tongwynlais on the Taff Trail, head over the river Taff into Morganstown then slowly climb around the foothills of the Garth, to eventually summit from the South. We'll decend into Gwaeold-Y-Garth, follow the paths and roads back to Tongwynlais for a well deserved brew! Great views of the Valley's and Cardiff are in store with some prolongued climbs and technical decents. First Light Coffee is the nominated venue for a coffee for those that wish to stay for a drink afterwards. When: Sunday 02 Feb 2025. Time: 08:45 for a 09.00 start. Meeting Location: Outside 'The Lewis Arms', Tongwynlais, CF15 7PJ. There's a car park adjacent to the pub, and plenty of on-road parking nearby. What3Words = ///much.reduce.bond Distance: 8 miles & 1300ft Elevation. Pace: We're running for pleasure, not PBs! Approx 09-10min/miles = 1hr20 - 1hr30 to complete. Terrain: A mix of roads, paths, grassy hills and forestry tracks with a few styles to get over. Grading: This is a Grade B/C run. The climb will require a level of stength and endurance, but we will be walking the steepest sections. Some steep technical decents off the top of the Garth as well which will be taken at a safe pace. The Garth is the ideal training ground to concur some serious elevation, but don't be put off by it, It's very acheivable. Kit: We recommend that participants bring the recommended kit for their comfort and safety. Please check the weather before heading off!
