However, if the event is being held in a cathedral, we kindly ask that you refrain from wearing high heels as they may cause damage to the cathedral flooring. Her personal assistant Kevin has been awfully interested in The National Archives’ new exhibition, MI5: Official Secrets, and she thinks it might be because he’s a double agent – compromising the safety of time itself! Take on a series of short challenges to uncover Kevin’s secret and help protect the past, present and future. Book now to embark on our spy-themed adventure. Time slots are available to play from Saturday 24 May to Sunday 28 September. FAQs Who is this activity for? This mission is an interactive self-led experience best played in a small group. The game has been developed for families with children aged 8 to 12 years old, but younger children and older players will still enjoy the mission. An adult is required to be present throughout the experience. Just one £5 ticket is required to play with a group of up to 6 people. How does it work? The mission begins in our foyer and then takes players around our new exhibition MI5: Official Secrets and comprises a series of challenges which need to be solved to proceed to the next stage. Each challenge highlights records, photographs and stories featured in the exhibition helping you to learn about the history of MI5 along the way. The mission is introduced through a short video from the head of the Ministry of Time Travel and our welcome staff will help you get started. What should I bring? The mission requires the use of an adult’s smartphone (with a data plan or connected to The National Archives WiFi). How long does it take? The experience will take about 30 minutes, but the duration will vary in length based on the speed of the players. What do I do when I arrive? You should arrive at The National Archives on your selected date and ten minutes in advance of your booked slot. You will be sent instructions by email 30 minutes before you scheduled start time explaining how to begin your mission. The adventure is self-initiated and self-led, so please begin at your set time. Parts of the mission will bring your group into contact with The National Archive staff stationed around the building. What if I get stuck? Beat the summer heat on this early morning outing on Mangini Ranch. Save Mount Diablo’s 208-acre property includes the headwaters of Galindo Creek with rolling grasslands, oaks, buckeyes, and a rare desert olive grove. Visit a secret spring and keep your eyes out; you might see bobcats and coyotes looking for breakfast, plus burrowing owls, quail, and many other feathered friends who are active in the morning. This is a two-hour hike with one strenuous climb. Three to five short meditations will be offered during the hike. Be sure to dress in layers and wear sturdy boots or shoes; bring plenty of water and a snack. Restrooms not available. Heavy rain cancels. Prepare to explore a magical world of heroes and monsters as you join a band of adventurers, forging a destiny of myth and legend that bards will tell of in story and song for years to come! Over 5 days, our expert Dungeon Masters will teach you how to create a character, fight monsters, and complete quests, as your character grows in power and skill! Everything you need will be provided, including character sheets, pencils, a set of dice, and figures! All of these supplies will be yours to take home, to continue your adventures beyond this introduction to the hobby. In addition, snacks and drinks will all be provided each day. No experience with Dungeons & Dragons is required. Basic reading and math skills are a benefit, but certainly not a requirement. Our DM will help out with anything you may need in the creation of your character and playing of the game. The most important thing is using your imagination and working together to have fun, and we will do all we can to create an environment where all kids feel comfortable doing so. This day camp will run Monday, August 25th through Friday, August 29th, 9AM-12PM, for children aged 8-14. On the first day, you'll meet your DM, receive your dice and character sheet, and together with the rest of the players at your table your DM will teach you all how to create characters. The next day we'll conclude any remaining character creation, and you will get to paint a fugure to represent your character. Continuing on through the week your DM will guide you through your adventure, and together with your fellow players you'll explore dungeons, solve puzzles, fight(or even befriend!) monsters, and all partake in an adventure you'll remember for the rest of your life!
