Create wearable art from Sway’s seaweed-based film with textile upcycling artist Mira Musank & Sway CEO Julia Marsh. And take home samples! Fibershed + Seelie Studio: Sea to Soil Series Curious about incorporating seaweed-derived materials into your creative practice? Sway has been developing packaging made with seaweed, and you’ll get to experiment with their archival materials in this unique workshop. Textile upcycling artist and Sway film enthusiast, Mira Musank of Fafafoom Studio, will share her exploration results in using Sway film to create wearable art and be available to support your vision. Sway CEO, Julia Marsh, will also be there to answer all your seaweed-related questions. You’ll leave with a pile of materials from Sway and advice on how to flow them into your creations. About the Fibershed + Seelie Studio: Sea to Soil Series: Get caught in the current of creativity this summer with our Sea to Soil Workshop Series, which includes five events with seaweed dyers, kelp specialists, seaweed biomaterial makers, urchin dyers, and more. Join them all with the Riptide Pass or come to one workshop you’ll love. Events run from June 27 to Sept 6. A show featuring curated and open-mic stories of any genre. Toss your name in the hat for a chance to tell YOUR story. Join us for storytelling in Novato! We’ll feature four storytellers, with special guest Paige Rodgers, followed by an Open Mic segment. You can either sign up to tell a 5-minute story or a 1-minute story in our Story Sprint lighting round. Your story can be ANY GENRE! A true, personal story, a tall tale, a braided tale, a myth, a folktale, a fractured fairy tale, etc. No theme, sign up at the door. Regardless of the genre, your story should follow a narrative format (beginning, middle, end) and be told without notes—no reading! Come out to a cozy, comfortable venue that is just right for an evening of great tales. Food and beverages are available at The Bistro, located at the Marriott. Plenty of free parking. Folk or Fairy Tale : A fictional story, originating from oral tradition and passed down through generations, often without a single author, featuring universal themes like overcoming challenges, teaching moral lessons, and reflecting cultural values. Braided Story : a storytelling technique that weaves together two or more separate storylines, perspectives, or topics to create a single, cohesive work. Fractured Fairy Tale . A fractured fairy tale is a traditional one that has been altered, often by changing the point of view, character roles, setting, or plot to create a humorous or modern retelling. Key characteristics include an altered point of view, a modified plot, a changed setting, and a humorous tone. Tall Tale : A story with unbelievable elements presented as if it were true and factual, often involving a larger-than-life hero or heroine with superhuman abilities. These humorous and exaggerated stories have roots in the folklore of the American frontier and are a uniquely American genre.
