We are thrilled to welcome back Southern Beauty, featuring Alison Wheeler (ex Beautiful South). The usual classics plus Christmas crackers! BEAUTIFUL SOUTH CHRISTMAS SPECIAL We welcome back the former lead singer from the Beautiful South who will be bringing her new band, Southern Beauty to Temperance again. They will be playing Beautiful South songs, in an avant-garde jazz style together with other classic jazz standards. This will be a very special evening and another not to be missed. Alison Wheeler has carved out a stellar reputation for herself in the fiercely competitive music industry through her exceptional vocals, unparalleled song-writing abilities, and captivating stage presence that mesmerises fans across the globe. Hailing from Daventry, England, Alison's love for music was ingrained in her from a young age by her parents, who introduced her to a wide array of music genres ranging from pop and rock to jazz and blues. Alison's music career kicked off at Cambridge University, where she formed a covers band called Melt City with successful record producer - Hal Ritson of The Young Punx and Kev Dowd of Lowbrow & Topers. Moving to London in 1995, she joined the indie band Junk (with founding member of The South - Phil Barton), where she quickly gained a reputation on the Camden and Islington gig circuit. This culminated in her joining the girl band Virginia in 1998, which led to appearances on BBC Radio, TV shows in Northern Ireland, and success in the US airplay charts. In 2002, Alison's work with London gospel band Citizen K brought her to the attention of Dave Hemingway of the Beautiful South. She collaborated with Hemingway on his solo project, and he recommended her to Paul Heaton, the driving force behind the Beautiful South, to replace departed band member Jacqui Abbott. With the release of "Gaze" in 2003, Alison became a permanent member of the Beautiful South and during her time with the band she headlined Glastonbury Festival, supported Robbie Williams at Croke Park, toured the world and appeared on numerous TV & Radio shows in the UK. When The Beautiful South split in 2007 due to ‘music similarities’, The South rose from it’s embers and over the past 14 years they have continued to celebrate the sound of The Beautiful South with Alison fronting the band over hundreds of performances throughout the UK and Europe. Alison continues to write, collaborate and perform in several successful projects, including The South, Topers, Action Amanda (with a no.1 on the iTunes Charts), and Southern Beauty. She has built a loyal fan base and earned critical acclaim for her work. Despite her numerous triumphs, Alison remains grounded and focused on her music, always striving to connect deeply with her listeners. She continues to explore new sounds and collaborations, and recently launched Southern Beauty to reinterpret the Beautiful South's back catalogue in an avant-garde jazz style intertwined with other classic jazz standards. Alison is hoping to prolong the life of these wonderful songs and at the same time maybe bring the songs to new audiences who might not necessarily know much of this infamous British institution. Alison's versatility as a performer, combined with her immense talent, has made her a celebrated voice in British music, and her music career continues to flourish. We are very excited to welcome RnB legend Mike Sanchez to perform another ultra-rare solo gig. He has performed with all the greats! British singer and pianist Mike Sanchez is one of the most exciting and charismatic performers in the world of rhythm & blues and rock 'n' roll. His indelible image as a frenetic front man, pumping powerful boogie-woogie from the piano in a soaking suit, has won him fans from all over the world and attracted a following from many famous rock and blues legends who have lined up to work with him. Mike Sanchez was born in London to Spanish parents in 1964. At the age of eleven, his family moved to Worcestershire in the West Midlands where Mike took up the piano, developing a strong love for 1950s' American roots music through his high school years. As a teenager he taught himself guitar and formed The Rockets, a rockabilly trio. Shortly after, Mike was introduced to former Chicken Shack, Savoy Brown and Steve Gibbons' multi-instrumentalist Andy Silvester by Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant, which led to the founding of the Big Town Playboys in 1984, specialising in authentic post-war Rhythm & Blues. Procol Harum pianist Gary Brooker became an early fan and introduced Mike to his friends Eric Clapton and Amen Corner's Andy Fairweather-Low. The latter signed up as guitarist with the Big Town Playboys for two years in the 1990s. Fleetwood Mac's Mick Fleetwood is another good friend who has regularly involved Mike in his plans wherever possible. The Big Town Playboys had various stints opening for Eric Clapton at London's Royal Albert Hall and appeared at many European music festivals, backing bluesmen like Lowell Fulson, Don & Dewey, Lonnie Brooks, Joe Hughes, Jimmy Nelson, Carey Bell and many more shows with pianist Little Willie Littlefield who became a big influence on Mike.. Mike recorded several albums with The Big Town Playboys between 1985 and 1998 including the classic Gene Vincent/Cliff Gallup tribute album 'Crazy Legs' with guitar-legend Jeff Beck in 1993. In 2000 Mike went solo and began several touring and recording projects involving different UK line-ups, though the following year he was invited to spend four years as a full-time member of Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings, fronting the band alongside Georgie Fame, Beverly Skeete, Albert Lee, Andy Fairweather-Low and Eddie Floyd on their annual tours across Europe. The Rhythm Kings released their album ‘Just for a Thrill’ and a DVD entitled ‘Let the Good Times Roll’, both featuring Mike’s extensive role as a member of the ex-Rolling Stones bassist’s touring band. In 2003 Mike released a debut 2-hour DVD titled 'Red Hot …Live!' featuring live shows of his 4 and 7-piece band and The Mike Sanchez Rhythm & Blues Revue, a Johnny Otis 1950s style show starring doo-wop vocal trio The Extraordinaires and Dublin vocalist Imelda May who shortly thereafter became a household name. In December 2007 Mike was invited to appear as a guest vocalist with Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings at one of the most publicised musical events of the decade - the Led Zeppelin reunion at London's O2 Arena, a tribute to the memory of the late Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records. Mike performed alongside such soul legends as Solomon Burke, Ben E King, Percy Sledge and Sam Moore. Another highlight during that period was Mike alongside Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Albert Lee and Dave Gilmour performing Elvis songs with his original guitarist Scotty Moore, filmed live at Abbey Road Studio, London for a DVD titled A Tribute To The King by Scotty Moore & Friends.
