The Devil Reached Toward the Sky: An Evening with Garrett M. Graff | 89 Church St

Jul 31, 2025 (UTC-4)
Burlington
Cultural Experiences
On the eightieth anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, the Pulitzer Prize finalist whose work is “oral history at its finest” ( Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ) delivers an epic narrative of the atomic bomb’s creation and deployment, woven from the voices of hundreds of scientists, generals, soldiers, and civilians. Join Phoenix Books Burlington at our prelease event for The Devil Reached Toward the Sky , the new release from beloved Vermont author Garrett. M. Graff! Bestselling historian and Pulitzer Prize finalist Garrett M. Graff has spent nearly two decades covering politics, technology, and national security, and is now recognized as one of the nation’s most prolific and wide-ranging journalists and historians. His award-winning work—including nine books on topics ranging from presidential campaigns, Watergate, 9/11, and cybersecurity, to D-Day and the U.S. government’s Cold War Doomsday plans, as well as dozens of magazine articles, essays, podcasts, and documentaries—uses history to explain the story of today, illuminating where we’ve been as a country and where we’re headed as a world. About the book: The Devil Reached Toward the Sky is the panoramic narrative of how ordinary people grapple with extraordinary wartime risks, sacrifices, and choices that will transform the course of history. Theorists and engineers dare to experiment with forces of terrifying power for the purpose of creating an atomic bomb, knowing each passing day costs soldiers’ lives—but fearing too the consequences of their creation. Hundreds of thousands of workers toil around the clock to produce uranium and plutonium in an endeavor so classified that most people involved learn the reality of their effort only when it is announced on the radio by President Truman. The 509th Composite Group trains for a mission whose details are kept a mystery until shortly before takeoff, when the Enola Gay and Bockscar are loaded with bombs the crew has never seen. And the civilians of two Japanese cities that have been spared American attacks—preserved for the sake of judging the power of the bomb on an intact city—escape their pulverized homes into a greater hellscape. Drawing from dozens of oral history archives and hundreds of books, reports, letters, diaries, and transcripts from across the US, Japan, and Europe, Graff masterfully blends the memories and perspectives from the known and unknown—key figures like J. Robert Oppenheimer, General Leslie Groves, and President Truman; the crews of the B-29 bombers; and the haunting stories of the Hibakusha—the “bomb-affected people.” Both a testament to human ingenuity and resilience and a compelling drama told by the participants who lived it, The Devil Reached Toward the Sky is a singular, profound, and searing book about the inception of our most powerful weapon and its haunting legacy. Think Tank Juniors: Case Based Learning in Burlington for Grades 6-8 | Tansley Woods Community Centre

Jul 4, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Burlington
Family Events
Welcome to Think Tank Juniors! We are a Case-Based Learning Program, designed to help students in Grades 6-9 develop and foster critical thinking, decision making and problem solving. Our goal is to build future leaders and entrepreneurs. We started this workshop series to fill an important gap in the current education curriculum. Where students learn one subject at a time and often only one way to solve a problem, our goal is to teach our kids to think differently...while learning to communicate effectively and confidently. Here we take real-world cases à modeled after real business and social challenges & tailor them to the provincial curriculum. Our program is designed to complement and fill the gaps in our provincial curriculum, by teaching kids to apply concepts rather than memorization alone! How the Program Works: Link to our Video We take real world cases that combine business, finance, marketing, strategy, and social responsibility, among others, to teach students to apply practical ways to solve each unique case. We encourage students to think strategically about solutions, and through these case workshops, help cement curriculum subjects into everyday life. Our goal is to help prepare our students for future post-secondary education, including DECA and other higher educational programs. Through our program, students get exposed to a variety of business and career paths to help them expand opportunities for their future. Our program is not only designed to focus on academic benefits, but also social and personal growth. Workshops are conducted in small group settings, often rotating throughout the year. This encourages students to learn to work within new teams and develop confidence in sharing ideas with each other. Each group presents their solution weekly, and each student is encouraged to participate equally, providing an opportunity for coaching and fine-tuning their oral presentation skills. Our program follows a strict fair play policy, where each student is given equal opportunities to participate, and/or is encouraged to participate in a safe and supportive environment. Sessions are taught by teachers with real world experience and often MBA's and other post-graduate degrees. Annual Learning Goals: Develop problem-solving and decision-making skills through real-world case analysis. Learn financial literacy, marketing, and strategy concepts through hands-on application. Strengthen teamwork, leadership, and communication in group-based projects. Understand how businesses innovate, compete, and address global issues. Teamwork, public speaking and developing confidence in sharing ideas and presenting. The Think Tank Junior Advantage: “Unlike traditional extra-curricular educational programs, that focus on one specific subject area, we offer a program that integrates multiple subjects into cohesive learning experiences. This helps the students maximize their chance of retaining information and knowing when and how to apply it in various environments.” Program Overview: Our program runs weekly on Fridays from May to August on a weekly drop-in basis. We offer a complimentary drop-in for students looking to try out the program. This applies for the first visit only. Each additional session will be charged $35 per session. All sessions are on a first come, first serve basis and registration beforehand is required. Classes : Every Friday (see Eventrbrite for scheduled days off). Some people are surprised to discover that you don't need to travel to cottage country to see fireflies! It's true, fireflies live in natural habitats in our beautiful city of Burlington! Because fireflies are especially sensitive to disappearing habitat, we love to celebrate their annual mating dance and the health of our land. Join us for a family campfire night to celebrate this bioluminescent bug and learn how we can contribute to its continued survival. More details regarding our activities to come! Stay tuned! It will be dark enough to see lots of firefly action after 9:15pm. The firefly trail is uneven, a bit hilly and will remain unlit for the protection of the fireflies. The firefly walk is not suitable for people with mobility issues. If you have questions about this, feel free to email info@bluedotacres.ca Information Source: Blue Dot Acres Farm | eventbrite

Family Yoga with Bunnies | Blue Dot Acres

Jul 6, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Burlington
Yoga
Cultural Experiences
We have created this yoga event for families with children ages 4-10 years. We will start with a gentle yoga session - the bunnies are invited of course! Tickets are $30 per person and includes; a 30-45 minute relaxation yoga session ideal for kids ages 4-10 years and their families connection time with the bunnies in the bunny room something from the produce stand to take home *Bring your own yoga mat or ask to borrow one of ours! What to Expect Yoga with Bunnies takes place on our farm in our indoor, open concept workshop space. Diana, our yoga instructor, will lead us through a session with a focus on relaxation, observation, and self awareness. Our farm bunnies are encouraged to visit us at our yoga mats with a variety of bunny treats. We suspect they will hop and flop nearby as we move through our asanas but they may also find some bunny mischief. They are very unpredictable! After the yoga session is done, you are invited to hand feed the bunnies and connect with them a bit more in their bunny room. Before you leave, you'll pick out something from our produce shelf to take home and enjoy later as a family! Yoga with Bunnies is not like goat yoga or puppy yoga... Connecting with a prey animal like bunnies is a unique experience. It taps into softness and vulnerability. Whether a bunny flops near you or hops by during a stretch, if a bunny decides to connect with you during class, it's a special thing. Bunnies are extra sensitive to their environment. If you have tried goat yoga or puppy yoga, this experience will be quieter, calmer (and perhaps even more introspective). Getting lost in your yoga practice is the best way to make a bunny friend! They love to approach you on their own terms. Likewise, if you are loud or unpredictable in your movements, the bunnies will retreat. With this in mind, this yoga experience is best for adults and young people who are interested in yoga and able to focus on the mindfulness practice. Here is our comparison of yoga with bunnies vs. goats and puppies. Bunny Yoga: Atmosphere: Bunny yoga is characterized by a serene and tranquil environment. The presence of soft, gentle bunnies creates a calming atmosphere that enhances relaxation and mindfulness during the yoga session. Interaction: Bunnies are small, quiet, and naturally more careful in their environment. They are also curious, so they might hop around or flop near participants, providing a comforting experience without much disruption. Their interactions are subtle and can help deepen the sense of peace and connection in the practice. They are curious and may try to nibble on your yoga mat. Don't worry, we'll put some leafy greens on your mat which they much prefer! Focus: The yoga practice emphasizes personal growth, with the bunnies adding a layer of interest. Energy Level: The overall energy of a bunny yoga class is quiet and peaceful, ideal for unwinding and de-stressing. Goat Yoga: Atmosphere: Goat yoga, on the other hand, is lively and playful. The presence of energetic goats adds an element of fun and unpredictability to the class, creating a more dynamic and interactive experience. Interaction: Goats are curious, playful, and sometimes mischievous. They might climb on participants, nibble on yoga mats, or engage in amusing antics. This can lead to laughter and light-heartedness, making the class feel more like a joyful, communal activity. Focus: While yoga poses are still central, goat yoga often becomes more about the experience with the animals than about traditional practice. It’s a blend of fitness and entertainment, where participants embrace the unexpected and enjoy the goats’ antics. Energy Level: The energy in a goat yoga class is high-spirited and lively, perfect for those looking for a fun, social, and unique yoga experience. Puppy Yoga: Atmosphere: Puppy yoga is lively and heartwarming, with an atmosphere that’s both playful and affectionate. The presence of energetic puppies adds excitement and a sense of warmth to the class. Interaction: Puppies are exuberant and full of energy. They might jump on participants, lick their faces, or playfully tug on yoga mats. The interactions are more active and engaging, often leading to laughter and joyful moments throughout the session. Focus: While yoga poses are still practiced, puppy yoga often emphasizes playfulness and the joy of being surrounded by affectionate animals. It’s a blend of exercise and social interaction, with a focus on enjoying the puppies’ enthusiasm. Energy Level: The energy in puppy yoga is high-spirited and vibrant, perfect for those looking for a fun, lively, and interactive experience. In summary, bunny yoga offers a calming, restorative experience focused on relaxation and peace, while puppy yoga or goat yoga provides a more playful, energetic session filled with entertaining interactions and lively moments. If you are seeking calm and quiet, give this a try! Our Bunny Consent Based Approach You will arrive and set up your mat in our open air space. The bunnies generally circulate around the outer edges of the room, so choose your spot accordingly! You will be given some leafy greens to place on your mat as a way to encourage the bunnies to visit your mat. (If you wish to bring your own leafy green treats for the buns, please choose from the list outlined in the FAQ's. Bunnies do love variety!) When Diana has started the class, the bunnies will have their bunny room door opened. This is their invitation to check out what we are doing in the yoga room. We have 7 bunnies in total and some of them may decide to join the class and others may decide to stay in the safety of their bunny room. The more calm our yoga room is, the more likely the bunnies will feel safe to join us. When the bunnies are moving around the room, just continue with your yoga practice. Some bunnies like to be patted (and are more willing to receive pats while they are eating their leafy greens) but some do not. If a bunny flops near you take that as a compliment! You must have great energy and the bunny is feeling safe and comfortable with you! At the end of class, for the safety of the bunnies, we will invite you to hand feed the buns any treats that are left near your yoga mat. FRIES Consent Principles for the Bunnies We like to follow consent principles for our bunnies. F - is their consent freely given? We invite the bunnies to yoga by opening their bunny room door. R- is their consent reversible? We leave their pathway to their bunny room free of obstacles so they can return to their safe space at any time during bunny yoga. I-is their sent informed? We try to keep the yoga room routines and rules for adults consistent so the bunnies know what to expect and so the bunnies can trust they will be safe. This is why we have a minimum age suggestion and rules about not picking up bunnies. We want the bunnies to know what to expect. E-are the bunnies enthusiastically consenting to be there? This one is tricky because bunnies are curious and hesitant by nature. We are inviting the bunnies to you as a way to meet their needs for stimulation and connection and play. All the bunnies, regardless of whether they joined yoga, have other outlets to meet their needs for stimulation and connection. All bunnies receive leafy greens regularly and after the yoga session is over, they all receive leafy green treats. It's our way of making sure the consent to join yoga is made more enthusiastically, not out of desperation or as a reward only given to the more outgoing bunnies. Our more hesitant bunnies will get ther needs met too. This is another strategy we are offering them to meet their needs. S-is the invitation we give them to join bunny yoga specific? We have been establishing routines and trust with our buns so that yoga is enjoyable for them. We aren't going to surprise them by acting like we're doing yoga and then burst out into dance routines. That one would probably go against your consent too! About our Instructor Our Yoga Instructor is Diana from Shivana Yoga. Diana is sharing yoga that is trauma informed and safe for people with a variety of abilities to participate. She has ample experience combining animals and yoga and we are lucky to have her sharing her most relaxing yoga practices for this deep relaxation session at our farm. Bow playing outside in our bunny playground. Bow enjoys pats and meeting new people. Daisy is our most athletic bunny and often the first to arrive for yoga sessions. She likes to be with people but on her own terms. This is Ringo. We think he is dapper, chill, and charming. He is often one of the first to join the yoga room. He loves to explore and eat the treats before the other bunnies build up the courage to check things out. This is Opal. He is a happy guy who likes people and sniffing new people. He is currently working through some drama with Ringo. They are trying to decide who will be the dominant male of the colony. Information Source: Blue Dot Acres Farm | eventbrite

We are pleased to offer Extended Care again this year, from 4:00-5:30pm, at a cost of $10/day or $50/week ($40/week for 4-day weeks), per camper. Make sure you select this add-on when purchasing your ticket for camp. *Registration open to campers aged 4 as of January 1, 2025 Please note: If courses are purchased at member price, and membership is not active, you will be charged for the membership. ART MATERIALS for children’s classes are included in the registration fee. WHAT TO WEAR? Wear something that nobody would mind if it came home dirty or stained - spills and splatters can and do happen! Closed-toe shoes are mandatory. WHAT TO BRING? Snacks and a lunch that are nut-free . We take three breaks in total - two snack breaks and one lunch. If your camper runs out of snacks, we'll have some on hand. ALLERGY OR SPECIAL NEEDS? Pistol Shooting Solutions, Burlington, WA, Mon/Tue July 7th and 8th, 2025 | Range

Jul 7, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
Burlington
Cultural Experiences
Pistol Shooting Solutions Burlington, WA - Monday and Tuesday, July 7th and 8th, 2025 You already have the basics of shooting and gunhandling - you can load, unload, and draw from a holster safely, you have proper muzzle and trigger finger discipline, shoot reasonably accurately, you can keep your gun running by reloading and clearing malfunctions, and maybe have the basics of use of cover down. What do you do next to improve your capability to solve problems where the handgun is an appropriate solution? It's time to improve your ability to deploy the handgun better, shoot it better, and navigate movement, cover, and the presence of bystanders better. It's time for Pistol Shooting Solutions. This class is two full days of intermediate to advanced level training, taught by Gabriel White (see instructor bio.) The class will use live and dry fire to improve our defensive use of the handgun, encompassing accuracy and efficiency in shooting, gunhandling, and personal tactics. This will include a heavy focus on developing students' technical skills and the application of those skills to solve problems relevant to defensive use of the handgun, including simple and complex spatial problems, and mitigation of danger to bystanders. Essentially, this class will focus on high performance in concealed carry and self-defense with a handgun. Efficient drawstroke • Shot calling Driving the gun on single and multiple targets (shooting mechanics) Shooting on the move Shooting on the move competitive exercises Foreground and background mitigation Basic and advanced use of cover • Use of cover competitive exercises Technical skills challenge testing • Effective dry practice Student Prerequisites At minimum, you must continuously execute the four firearms safety principles and be able to safely draw from a concealed, belt-mounted holster or unconcealed duty holster. This class is not appropriate for beginners and should not be your first training class. You must be at least 21 years old, a U.S. Citizen, and not prohibited by any Federal, State, or Local law from possessing firearms. You will be required to sign at least one waiver at the start of class (Instructor waiver and potentially one or more club waivers.) You should be able to hit a 6"x6" target on demand at 10 yards (equivalent of the A/B zone or head of a USPSA Metric or IDPA target) and reload and clear malfunctions. Faster and more accurate shooting and gunhandling will be very helpful. A person with weak marksmanship or gunhandling skills may feel somewhat left behind. You may still be able to participate safely, but may not feel that the class is the best use of your time and ammunition. If you are unsafe, or do not appear to be of sound and responsible mind, you will be asked to leave. If you are safe, and of sound and responsible mind, but lack the needed shooting skill, you will not be asked to leave, but the class will not be altered to cater to you. Equipment Requirements Eye and ear protection, plus brimmed hat. Safe and reliable service caliber handgun, 9mm/.38 Spl or larger - this class is built around compact and full size semi-automatic pistols - revolvers are welcome but may be very challenging. Note: The SIG P320 handgun was recently discovered to have a vulnerability to discharge at a particularly egregious upward angle as a result of being dropped. The P320 is not allowed in Pistol Shooting Solutions unless it has received the upgrade/fix from SIG. Strong-side or appendix, belt mounted holster that covers the trigger guard when the gun is in the holster, stays open when the gun is out of the holster, and attaches securely to the belt. Unsafe holsters will not be allowed. Please do not bring minimalist holsters that only cover the trigger guard and are designed to be removed from the belt before holstering. Please do not bring the BLACKHAWK! Serpa holster unless required by your agency. Concealment garment or duty/retention holster. The class is intended to develop the highly skilled use of a pistol in self-defense. For most of us, that means either concealment or a duty/retention holster. Unconcealed range or competition gear is also welcome if you prefer. Sufficient spare magazines to shoot at least 65 rounds of ammo before needing to refill magazines (for example, if you have 17-round magazines, bring at least 4 magazines to class.) Magazine pouch (single, double, and combination pouches are all acceptable.) Ammunition, ~1000 rounds (actual round count is likely to be over 950.) Please allow yourself the best class experience possible and bring ammunition that is going to function correctly! Range REQUIRES brass-cased, FMJ or TMJ ammunition! Bring lunch, snacks, water, and personal hygiene products - we will be at the range all day and take short lunch breaks (approximately 30 minutes) - there will not be time to leave the range to get food! This class is not the best time to break in a new gun, or use untested or unreliable guns, ammunition, or other equipment! Those issues will be a huge distraction from your training and I am unlikely to be able to solve those problems for you. Class location is in the Burlington, WA area. Directions will be sent to registered students. Class will start at 8:00 am and will go until finished - 6:30pm is the estimated end time of class each day. When you arrive, please do not handle firearms until instructed to do so. It's not a problem if you arrive wearing a loaded and holstered handgun, need to switch gear, or if you arrive not wearing a gun and need to put on your gear. Just leave the gun where it is and do not handle it until we show you when and where to do that. Full tuition payment is due to secure spot in class ($595.00 USD.) Refunds of tuition available by request until 60 days before class start date, at which point tuition is 100% nonrefundable. Class is limited to fourteen (14) students maximum. If less than ten (10) students register (not including class hosts), then class may be canceled due to low enrollment - if this happens full refunds will be issued. Separate from tuition, a range fee of $75 per student is due on the first day of class, payable by cash only. Failure to abide by all terms and conditions may result in forfeiture of tuition and/or being dismissed from class. Payment constitutes agreement to all requirements, terms, and conditions. Email questions to classes@gabewhitetraining.com Instructor Bio Gabriel White is a defensive handgun instructor and competitive shooter in the Pacific Northwest. Gabe comes from a pure private citizen background and seeks to develop students' technical and tactical excellence in the training he provides. Gabe stands apart by living a deep commitment to competing and training with his actual concealed carry gear at a high technical level in addition to adhering to safe and effective tactics and self-defense practices. Current Chief Instructor of Public Range FTU and public defensive handgun training program for Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office at the Public Safety Training Center in Clackamas, Oregon - Note: This class is not associated with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Instructor Emeritus at Oregon Firearms Academy in Brownsville, Oregon Master class in USPSA Limited Division shooting carry gear from concealment Master class in GSSF FAST Challenge Coinholder #09 One of only ten people worldwide to clean the Rogers Shooting School Test First person worldwide to clean the Rogers Shooting School Test from concealment LFI Judicious Use of Deadly Force Instructor NRA-certified Pistol Instructor Over 800 hours of formal defensive handgun and emergency training as a student Defensive handgun practitioner since 1999 Defensive handgun instructor since 2007"My truest qualification is that I love defensive pistol training and skill development. I am a student first and I am always a student. I love to study and practice to increase my own skills and preparedness for self-defense, and I love to work with others interested in doing the same. It is my belief that there is no such thing as being too good at fighting for your life with a pistol. It is with that mindset that I guide my students with me on a few steps down the path."- Gabe White Want To Learn More About Gabe's Perspective? Don't set up dates too quickly It's normal to chat and have some back and forth before deciding if a date is in the cards. If the person wants to meet you immediately that is a RED FLAG. 2. Meet up in a public place the first time It's a wise decision to choose a busy public location for your first date. Meet at a pub, coffee shop, restaurant, and/or busy park. This allows a secure setting for both of you. 3. Always arrange your own transportation for the initial date Always meet your date in a public place. Never, ever let them pick you up or drop you off on your first few dates. Even if they offer to pick you up or drop you off, say "no thanks" until you trust them! Remember the old saying stranger DANGER. 4. Tell someone you trust that you have a date Never go on a date/meet-up without telling someone. This should always be your no. 1 safety rule when meeting people for the first time. Let a friend or family member know that they should expect to hear from you at a certain time. You can also let them know where you're going on the date. It’s also a smart idea to have a ‘safe word’ or ‘safe phrase’, to use, just in case you need to make a quick exit. 5. Think before exchanging numbers Do not forget that you are under no need to share phone numbers if you feel uncomfortable. It’s OK to schedule dates and converse only through a safe app until you feel ready to give out your phone number. Always take your time when to disclose contact information since your privacy is crucial. 6. ALWAYS Trust your instincts If you sense any discomfort or uneasy vibes while conversing, planning a date in person, don't hesitate to leave immediately and exit the situation. Your well-being always comes first, and it's perfectly fine to step away if something doesn't feel right. Let your friend or family member know. Information Source: Crazy4Events | eventbrite

The beloved, award-winning author of Do I Know You? and We Love To Entertain returns with an electrifying novel of psychological suspense that explores the way our pasts shape our futures in so many unexpected ways. Phoenix Books is excited to host award-winning Vermont novelist Sarah Strohmeyer to celebrate the release of A Mother Always Knows , a brand new thriller that explores the mother-daughter bond, our collective obsession with cults and their charismatic leaders, and a protagonist with a stronger-than-usual connection to the other side. Sarah Strohmeyer is a bestselling and award-winning novelist whose books include the upcoming thriller A Mother Always Knows , We Love to Entertain , Do I Know You? , the wildly popular Bubbles Yablonsky mystery series, The Cinderella Pact (which became the Lifetime Original Movie Lying to Be Perfect ), along with many stand-alone novels for adults and young adults including Smart Girls Get What They Want and This Is My Brain on Boys . A former newspaper reporter, her writing has appeared in numerous publications, including the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Boston Globe . She lives with her cat and husband in Middlesex, Vermont, where she is the elected Town Clerk. Adult children come and go. About the book: Stella O’Neill is just your average millennial, working at a public library and worrying about making rent. No one would suspect she’s been living under an assumed name or that she was raised in a Vermont commune of “diviners” where, and as a ten-year-old, she witnessed her mother’s brutal murder—a crime that has gone unsolved for years. But her quiet, anonymous existence is upended when a true-crime obsessive posts her current name and location on the internet. Now, Stella has to get out of Boston before her mother’s killer can find her and finish the job he started all those years ago. Fed up with living in fear, she heads to the off-the-grid retreat of her childhood to confront her mother’s unhinged guru who controlled their lives for so long–the infamous Radcliffe MacBeath. Stella has two powerful assets: determination and a supernatural gift. Relying on her mother’s beloved rose quartz pendulum, Stella will have to outwit the charismatic leader who’s ruined so many lives and discover once and for all the true identity of her mother’s killer—before becoming his next victim. Light + Earth: Photolithography and Cyanotype on Clay | Art Gallery of Burlington

Arts
Craft
Age: 18+ Dat: Saturday July 12, 2025 Time: 1 - 4 PM Cost: M $70 and NM $75 Instructor: Leila Fatemi Join artist Leila Fatemi for an experimental, hands-on workshop that explores the intersection of photography and ceramics through photolithography and cyanotype on clay. Inspired by Fatemi’s current residency in the AGB Ceramics Studio and her solo exhibition A Vessel to Bend Water in the Perry Gallery, this session invites participants to engage with image-making through material experimentation and surface transformation.  Using photographic imagery as a starting point, we’ll learn how to transfer and embed visual narratives onto clay surfaces, merging light-sensitive processes with tactile materiality. The workshop will introduce two alternative photographic processes—photolithography and cyanotype—adapted for clay. Participants will learn how to transfer photographic imagery using toner-based lithographic techniques, as well as how to apply the cyanotype process to create rich, blue-toned prints on ceramic surfaces. Both approaches will be explored in an open-ended, playful environment, encouraging hands-on experimentation.  No prior experience in photography or ceramics is required—this session is open to curious makers interested in pushing the boundaries of image, surface, and form. All materials will be provided.  About the Instructor: Leila Fatemi is a visual artist currently based in Tkaronto/Toronto. Through a combination of material and textual research, her practice unfolds across a variety of mediums including photography, collage, archival materials, textile, pattern, and printmaking. Bridging themes of postcolonialism, gender, and spirituality, Fatemi's work challenges viewers to consider their role in relation to the representational accuracy and cultural consequences of Orientalized subjects. By employing methods of subversion and reclamation as tools to resist imperialist legacies, her work offers alternative perspectives surrounding the colonial gaze, ethnic representation, and collective numinous experiences.   Fatemi received a BFA in Image Arts: Photography Studies from Toronto Metropolitan University. Her work has been exhibited in Canada and internationally and has been featured in online and print media. She was the first-place recipient of the Clyde & Co. Art Award for excellence in visual art, was a finalist for the Toronto Arts Foundation Emerging Artist Award in 2020 and is the 2022–2023 recipient of the Black, Indigenous, People(s) of Colour Residency at Open Studio. ART SUPPLIES: All materials for this workshop are included in the registraiton fee. ATTIRE: Closed-toe shoes are mandatory in the AGB studios. ALLERGIES OR SPECIAL NEEDS? Burlington
Yoga
Cultural Experiences
Summer is in full bloom on the farm and we are inviting you to enjoy the hoppy vibes! The bunnies will be free ranging as we move through a heart-pumping, strength building yoga session. Your $30 ticket includes; a 1 hour strengthening power yoga session lead by @yogaxVictoria leafy green treats to entice the bunnies to visit your mat connection time with the bunnies Bring your own mat or borrow one from us! What to Expect Yoga with Bunnies takes place on our farm in our indoor, open concept workshop space - if the weather is nice, we will open the garage doors to bring the outdoors in! Victoria, our yoga instructor, will lead us through a session that combines relaxation, strength, and play all while enjoying one of her curated playlists. Our farm bunnies are invited to join our yoga workout and encouraged to visit us at our mats with a variety of bunny treats. We suspect they will hop and flop nearby as we move through our asanas but they may also find some bunny mischief. They are very unpredictable! After the yoga session is done, you are invited to hand feed the bunnies and connect with them a bit more. We're loosely suggesting this yoga experience is best for adults and young people ages 11+ who can remain calm in the presence of fluffy adorableness but we'll trust your judgment. Focus: The yoga practice with Victoria emphasizes personal growth, with the bunnies adding a layer of interest. Bunnies do love variety!) When Victoria has started the class, the bunnies will have their bunny room door opened. This is their invitation to check out what we are doing in the yoga room. We have 8 bunnies in total and some of them may decide to join the class and others may decide to stay in the safety of their bunny room. About our Instructor Our Yoga Instructor is Victoria and she can be found on IG as @yogaxvictoria. Victoria loves power yoga and brings a gentle "bunny version" to this class, mixing strength, stretch, balance, playfulness and mindfulness. When she isn't instructing yoga, Victoria is a school secretary, a role that involves holding space for all the feelings. About the bunnies We have full bunny profiles on our website www.bluedotacres.ca .Below are photos of the bunnies who are most likely to join us for Bunny yoga; Ringo, Daisy, Bow, and Opes. Our other bunnies Sterling, Dandy, and Ruby may or may not venture into the yoga room. Sterling is a three legged bunny and is understandably more cautious about her safety and slower to build trust. Dandy and Ruby are our youngest buns. They haven't been interested in yoga yet but they have peered at us from the hallway.
